Out of April and into May, LBC riders pedaled through various areas of Lancaster County. In the upper left, riders make a photo stop during "Helen's Heavenly Hike;" and in the upper right are riders making their way through and around Churchtown. In the bottom left are riders on the "Dark Side of Moon," and in the lower right , a group returns from an impromptu ride on the Northwest River Trail.

Lead From the Back

by Dave Stauffer

Wow – finally- the rain has stopped, momentarily, and great cycling weather has arrived. We all become more active in the summer, so I ask you to act also in response to what I share in my following updates.

*As the hot weather arrives more consistently:

Use Sun Screen. Melanoma is not fun.

Drink fluids: This is my annual reminder to always carry water, money, and know where to get more. Do not be afraid to call for a water stop if you run out while on a group ride. Most likely, you are not the only one who could use some extra fluids. If you are going longer distances, include some electrolytes.

*What we know about our website

Ten of our members have “dead” emails. You may be one of those persons If you changed your email but never updated your member profile in the website. In that case, you would not be receiving notices. To remedy, please contact Gary Musser, membership@lancasterbikeclub.net so he can update your email and resend you the activate link.

Please! If you have not yet logged into the new website, do asap, so that your username and password are updated. Approximately 190 members have not logged on. You should have received an email with a link on March 25th. Check your Junk and Spam folders if you cannot find it.

You have the option to sign up secondary and tertiary members of your family within your membership profile. By adding them to your profile, your family members may then register for LBC events under their own names. This allows each family member to participate in club activities as an individual rather than just as a “guest”.

Use the Register Now button to sign up for an event; locate it in the upper top right of the page after you log into the site page.

All electronic payments made on the website are processed through Paypal for free. You can still use your Credit Card of choice through Paypal. If you do not have a current Paypal account, you will be prompted to create one for free.

Auto renewal of your annual membership is no longer available on our new website. You need only to renew if you do not receive your membership for free which is earned by volunteering for one of the positions that provide you with a membership. These include participation in the Ride Hero Leader/Sweep program, Smart Cycling, board activities, and others. Please contact me to cash in on one of these opportunities.

If you do need to pay for your renewal and if you have not received an email from Gary Musser, please contact him. Unfortunately, with the launch of our new site, our membership renewal settings were incorrect, so some memberships expired without getting a renewal notice. If your membership renewal date expired between March 25th and May 20th, you should have received an email from Gary around May 23rd explaining how to renew. Sorry about this mix up.

If you have suggestions for the website and to keep it more dynamic, please send your recommendations to Ken Juengling vp@lancasterbikeclub.net or go to the club’s website under the tab Contact Us and then select Ken’s name from the “Send To” dropdown list.

* We still need 115 volunteers to assist with our Lancaster Covered Bridge Classic

Covered Bridge volunteering positions are posted under the “Volunteering” here tab of our website. You will need to use the Search tool at the top and filter to the “Category” Covered Bridge Classic so you do not have to page through all the TdRR positions.

*Fun Stuff:

TdRR Registration is open. Go to the TdRR page to sign up. Extra credit opportunities will be open soon. Link from the same page or go to the “volunteering” page of the website.

Looking forward to a great summer

See you on the road

Dave Stauffer

CLUB Spotlight:

Cycling season is sure to attract many both new and veteran cyclists to the roads – sometimes in crowds, especially on group rides.

Whether your group is large or small, you are responsible for keeping yourself safe as well as others. To best ensure that all riders return accident-free, know the rules of the road.

These include not just the PA vehicle code items, but also the LBC club rules. See and read the list below and stay safe.

Please welcome the new members of LBC:

Chad Crouse, Seth Crouse, Christopher Douglas, Ethan Farrell, Janeen Farrell, Lauren Finn,

Florence Good, Timothy Good, Lynda Haspe,r Lynne Huenink, Wayne Janes, Dimitri Keares, Brenda Littig, Sharon Martin, Richard McMichael, Michelle Minnick, Christian Taylor, Stephen Whitley

LBC Grant Update

To the left, Dave Stauffer and John Mullineaux met with the Lancaster County Commissioners to present a check for covered bridge funding. At that time the Commissioners issued a proclamation of May as National Bike Month. On the right is the new bicycle repair stand for Marietta’s portion of the Northwest River Trail. The stand, which was funded by a $760 LBC grant, is located at the South Decatur Street parking area.
