Background information of Pope John Paul II
Pope John Paul II was born on May 18,1920 in Wadowice, Poland. His family included his parents Emilia and Karol Wajtyla and siblings Edmund and Olga Wajtyla
Pope John Paul II was very athletic and loved to swim and ski. His mom died when he was 9 and his dad died when he was 21 years old. When he was a kid he had to undergo the Nazis coming into Poland and taking over.
Pope John Paul II went to Krakow's Jagiellonian University in 1938 where he was involved in theater and poetry.
He was never married and never had any children his jobs always had something to do with the church. He was a bishop at Ombi in 1958 then later became Pope until the rest of his life.
He later died on April 2, 2005 in Vatican city, Italy.

Some of his famous quotes were "Do not abandon yourself to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song." and the other quote is "An excuse is worse and more terrible than lie, for a excuse is a lie guarded."
Some other interesting facts about Pope John Paul II were that he got hit by a car, and got shot and still lived. Before he became Pope his real name was Carel Wojtyla but when you become Pope they give you a new name.
