Library volunteers help with checking in books, putting books away on the library shelves, and helping students check new books out. Students love seeing their parents help out in the library. If you have any questions, please email me! LHenderosn@troy.k12.mi.us
Join the Birthday Book Club
Celebrate your child's birthday in a fun new way - by donating a book to the Hamilton Library. All students can participate in this club at any time. How do you join? By picking out a new, hard-cover book to add to the Hamilton Library collection. You can use our Amazon Wishlist for ideas. http://bit.do/birthdaybook
Bring your new, hard-cover book to the library with the completed form (see link below to download) and we will process the book and add it to the library collection. Each birthday book will have a special bookplate inside commemorating your child's birthday. Members of the birthday book club will receive a special bookmark and pencil which they can keep, and will be the first student to check out their Birthday Book!

Spotlight on Learning
Kindergarten & First Grade: We have been talking about authors and illustrators, and soon we will find out which authors and illustrators won the American Library Association awards for 2017! We've been reading some of Mrs. Henderson's favorite picture books of 2017 to make predictions about who we think might win. At the end of the month we'll read some of the winners, and begin to learn about the genre of biographies.
Second & Third grade: My second and third graders are also learning about book awards, but we are beginning to look beyond just the Caldecott award at some others such as the Newbery medal, Theodore Seuss Geisel award, and Coretta Scott King award. We are loving some beautiful picture book read alouds form 2017 as we wait for the big announcement on February 12th of the next award winners! After we read some award winners, second grade will explore Biographies while third learns about plagiarism.
Fourth & Fifth grade: Now that we have lots of databases in our "toolbelt" for online research, we are learning how to use NoodelTools to create bibliographies for our writing projects. This month we will learn how to log in, create our account, and start making some simple bibliographies. NoodleTools is a site students will continue to use in middle and high school as well! After the ALA book awards are announced on February 12, fourth and fifth grade will have some time to explore the Newbery winner and honor books of 2017.
