DESTINATION INFORMATION

Passport / Vaccination / Visa Required

ABOUT GHANA - Ghana is the 82nd largest nation in the world with a population of over 28,245,000. If you only watch the news, you might think that if you go to Africa, you’re destined to catch Ebola, HIV/AIDS, malaria, get caught in a civil war or get chased by lions, tigers and bears. Well, this is not true!

Many places in Africa are just as safe as -- or safer than -- the neighborhoods we all call home. Traveling in Ghana might require research and awareness so you can enjoy a positive experience.

Ghana was the main center for exporting enslaved Africans in the tragic slave trade, which took millions of Africans against their will. We will visit Cape Coast Castle, Elimina Castle of St. George, slaves dungeons and 'Door-of-No-Return', places our forefathers might have passed through on their enforced journey to the Americas.

  • **ACTIVITY LEVEL - This journey is rated **HIGH ENERGY**. You must be in Very Good Physical Condition to participate in this trip. You should be prepared for long walks, high temperatures, and outdoor activities as there will be trekking through rain forest, water and climbing steep inclines. This journey is not suitable for someone who is a slow walker that cannot keep up with a moderate pace of the group, is walking impaired or physically challenged. Please be aware of your abilities to meet the activity level before signing up for this trip. Additionally, please consult your personal physician, local health department, travel clinic, or immunization center about any vaccinations you may need to update, or others that may be personally recommended for you based on your age, health, and past vaccination history. www.cdc.gov
  • VISA - A visa is REQUIRED for travel to Ghana. A single entry tourist visa costs varies and is not included in your trip package. The Consulates of Ghana issues single entry visas that are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. You are advised to apply for a single entry visa no more than 30 days before the intended departure date. This will ensure that your visa will be valid for the longest duration possible. A $100 Rush visa can be purchased from the Ghanaian Consulate in Houston with same day receipt. There is also a Ghanaian Consulate in New York and Embassy in Washington, DC.

Temperatures settle between 83° - 73°, with the average temperature around 82°. The weather is considered very hot, with the average humidity of 70%. This can cause sticky, muggy weather, so you need to avoid spending too long in the direct heat, in order to avoid heatstroke or dehydration. Expect the weather to remain within the averages for the duration of our trip. The dress attire for this vacation should be functional and casual. No formal dress is required. Please be aware of weather conditions during our travels and it is always recommended to dress in layers.
  • FOOD AND WATER - The golden rule is if you cannot peel it, boil it or cook it...don’t eat it. Generally, you may want to avoid fresh salads or raw vegetables as they may be washed with contaminated water and avoid eating raw shellfish, raw crab and cold cooked meats. As a rule, stick to bottled water even for brushing your teeth. Consuming bottled water is highly recommended. It might be best to pass on drinks that have crushed ice to avoid contamination. Ice cubes with holes through it should be safe.

FAQs

Is this an escorted tour? Yes, partially. We trip will include a tour guide on locations, who will take care of us throughout our vacation. We will travel by foot, plane, and motor coach to pre-selected sites, landmarks and destinations during our trip. That also means that morning departures will normally begin between 9:00-10:00AM each day, but occasionally there could be an early morning departure.

I want to relax on vacation. Can I do that on this tour? This group tour is a pretty full time of being with the group during the day and time in the evenings for yourself. So, if you love being active, meeting new people and seeing new things, then this will be a great trip for you. You will be able to enjoy relaxing "ME" time in the evenings when you return to the hotel, if you skip evening socializing activities with the group. If you want to relax on the beach in a resort-style vacation, there is definitely "down time" to relax on the beach for a few days at the end of our trip so you return home rejuvenated and refreshed, instead of being exhausted.

Can I do my own thing before and after the tour? Absolutely, you can! Our Social Group organizes travel for the group of women but it is by no means a 'must' to be with the group the entire trip. It is your vacation and you can choose to spend it as you like, as long as it does not inconvenience any of the other travel members. Our sisterhood of members travel together as friends, and we encourage you to be as free and independent as possible on your vacation. In the evenings, some of us may go out as a group for dinner, but if you have had enough 'group time' for the day, you can enjoy personal "Me" time to yourself. This is especially needed for people who are introverts and it is completely understood. You may even choose to sit out on parts of the group tour and link up again later if you like. Please note that you are liable for the cost of any alternative activities you choose to undertake during your leave and you will not receive a refund for any unused services or food.

How do I make a reservation? You may lock your spot 24/7 by clicking the link below to complete your reservation form online, on the phone, or in person at one of our Meetup.com Socials.

Are prices based on double occupancy? Yes, PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ trip packages and retreats are always based on double occupancy; however, we do offer a Single Occupancy Supplement rate if you prefer a room to yourself. We do not offer triple or quad room accommodations.

Can you help me secure a roommate if I cannot find one? Yes, many women who sign up for our vacation packages and retreats come alone. PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ is happy to arrange a RoomShare Match upon request, but cannot guarantee one will always be available; neither does PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ guarantee compatibility.

I enjoy my personal space. Can I have a room to myself? Yes, the trip package rate is higher for a single occupancy room; however, it can be organized in most instances. Please look for the additional single occupancy supplement rate above in the trip package price area.

How do I pay for the trip and what form of payment do you accept? We have various payment options available including credit card, debit card, e-check, bank-to-bank money transfer and ACH; however, no cash, check or money order is ever accepted. An invoice will be emailed to you to pay your initial deposit and subsequent monthly payments. You will receive an updated Account Statement after each payment.

Should I insure my trip and how much does it cost? Proof of out-of-country medical insurance is required to travel with PUMPS & PASSPORTS™. Travel protection coverage is short term insurance intended to protect against “unexpected” travel-related expenses and emergencies, such as cancellation, interruption, medical expenses, evacuation, loss or delay. Travel insurance is highly recommended. You may receive a travel protection quote for your trip here: Travel Protection Quote

If you cannot display positive regard toward others, are unwilling to follow instruction from others or obey the customs of another country or if you enjoy an independent travel experience without restriction of having to be in a certain place at a certain time, our trips will not be a good fit for you. Please do not sign up.

PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ reserves the right to accept, decline or decline to retain any Travel Member based on character, temperament, an uncooperative nature, health, physical readiness, suitability for the adventure, and non-compliance with the trip’s Group Guidelines, Policies, Terms & Conditions.

Can I arrive a day early or extend my stay? Yes, you are welcome to extend your stay; however, it may not be able to be included as part of this trip's package.

If I have additional questions before I complete my online reservation, can I speak with someone? Yes, we courage you to read the trip's Group Guidelines, Policies, Terms & Conditions thoroughly also, since the majority of questions are answered there. Alternatively, we have support staff who are happy to answer your inquiries at any time leading up to your trip. Dial our business lines: (888) 367-9543 or the contact number contained within the Welcome email you receive regarding your trip.

ABOUT US

PUMPS & PASSPORTS™, a national women's empowerment Meetup group, supports women over 40 who desire to connect, engage, travel and explore the world.

Started in 2014, PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ was founded to answer the call of women around the country with a growing impulse for connection, as empty nesters realize that life does not end after the kids leave home. Women who join our Social Group are intent on making time for themselves to celebrate and live life to the fullest. Our Social Group's aim is to help women forge genuine friendships and unite in our desire and love to travel. What has developed is an opportunity to see the world in a community of sisterhood. Join us! Because You Deserve It...
