Shawnee District Committee Recap

  • Membership: All Charters have officially been posted and no units were dropped. We are at 234 youth in our program with a -87 youth compared to 2016. Many ideas have been brought up such as having a Join Scouting Night at the Sweet Frog in Burnham, PA. We are going to work out details to have this event with the owner. Contacts to Preschools are being made to have Boy Talks are to talk at Pre-K graduations to push the boys going to Kindergarten into the Lions program. New units are being formed. Pack 60 in Mifflintown is ready to begin meeting, A Venture Crew at the Compass Center is close to starting, as well as a Pack at Sacred Heart in Lewistown and an Exploring Post at A New Day Charter School in Mifflintown.
  • Activities/Camping: Troop 65 will be hosting the Spring Camporee. A site visit/inspection was done two weeks ago. The area meets most of the BSA Regulations and fits the needs of the Camporee. The program is coming along and looks acceptable. Restroom accomidations need to be made with Porta-potties. Also we will be preparing the Camporee Guidebook for the April Roundtable.
  • Training: Scoutmaster Specific and BALOO will be offered at Summer Camp. Scott Lewis, District Training Chair is scheduled to be trained at "Trainers Edge" March 25th at the Scout Service Center. The training is open to anyone wanting to become a better presenter. District Committee Workshop has been requested for Next Spring. Susquehanna Council is conducting NYLT for Boy Scout and Venturing aged Youth. Currently 6 JVC youth are planned on attending. Encourage more boys to sign up so we have a large pool to draw from when we conduct our own NYLT in 2019. In 2018 we will be having Woodbage open for youth 18+, Adult Leaders and Committee Members. Our Goal is to have 100% top leaders trained for 2017.
  • Advancement: Advancement Day is to be held on April 8th. A new Life to Eagle video has been created.
  • Finance: Our 2017 goals are as follows FOS=$12,000 Good Scout Dinner=$20,000 Spring Nut Sales=$1,500 Popcorn=$11,000
  • Commissioners/Unit Service- Current slate of Commissioners were approved at Council Executive Board. Paul Grego is the new District Commissioner.
