Standing Committee: Congress set up permanent groups to oversee bills that dealt with certain kinds of issues. They go from congress to congress. The house and senate both create their own standing committee when they became majority in 1995.
Sub Committee: Each subcommittee specializes in a subcategory of its standing committee responsibility. Subcommittee and Standing committee usually continue from one congress to another.
Select Committee: Study one specific issue and report their findings to the Senate or the House. The issues can include, matters of great public concern such as organized crime, overlooked problems such as hunger, and problems of interest group such as owners of small business who claims congress didn’t meet their needs.
Joint Committee: Either temporary or permanent and have members from both political parties
Conference Committee: Temporary committee set up when the house and senate have passed different versions of the same bill
Standing Committee 1: oversees the entire financial services industry, including the securities, insurance, banking, and housing industries. 34 Majority members and 26 minority members. No one from Iowa for the Geographical Area of members.
Standing Committee 2: Rather than being responsible for a specific area of policy, as most other committees are, it is in charge of determining under what rule other bills will come to the floor. 9 majority members and 4 minority. For geographical area members, there are a lot of representatives from Texas and Georgia.
Standing Committee 3: has jurisdiction over bills and investigations related to the foreign affairs of the United States. There is 27 majority members and 19 minority. For geographical area for members are mainly made up FLorida, Texas, and California.
