ThIs cheese pizza is not for the faint hearted.
Sbarro kick-starts the holiday season with their newest CHICAGO SUPER CHEESE PIZZA, which is said to be available until January 6. But we're all hoping this to become a mainstay on their classic menu that has been with us for 26 years now.
Yes, 26 years! The iconic brand has been with us for that long already but it's nice to know that they are still standing strong despite the competition in the market. And I can still imagine those days when I was a teenager while I gaze at the windows of Sbarro in SM Megamall while pizza makers knead and toss the pizza dough, showing their showmanship, skills and confidence.
If you must know, Sbarro is indeed the best choice to get fast and healthy Italian favorites at very reasonable prices. And although I already have a template when it comes to choosing from their menu (baked ziti with red sauce and a slice of cheese pizza please), I recently had a newly found appreciation for it when I met and the owner where he shared his story of how he began his lifelong love affair with Sbarro.
From a twelve year old boy who started serving pizza in Sbarro's branch in Times Square, New York, Frederick Salvador showed us the scars on his arms from when he became a pizza maker who constantly burns himself on the pizza oven by accident, as he hones his skills and passion to pizza making. This makes for a truly inspiring journey to success of being one of the pioneers in Italian fast food in the Philippines. Which is why it isn't unusual for him to create the pizza that's perfect for the holiday season and with the help of his R and D team as well.
Please welcome, Sbarro's Chicago Cheese Pizza. It's a twist to the usual Chicago Deep Dish but this one is made with layers of ricotta sauce and mozzarella cheese with some hot honey which gives this pizza a more satisfying bite.
The pizza may also come with your choice of either their signature red or white sauce, but when I tried this last week, I opted for the red one because its acidity cuts through the overwhelming and rich ricotta and mozza cheeses that's melted and combined inside a deep pizza crust.
Oh, and by the way, each pizza is packed with almost a kilo worth of mozza. Just enough to make my tummy happy!
With great confidence comes great pizza, and the Chicago Super Cheese isn't your ordinary deep dish. Just by watching it being made, it is true that one must really be intricate and confident on how to make really good pizza, and that is what Sbarro has been doing after all these years.
