Lionel Messi, the man, the myth, the legend. Lionel Messi grew up with Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD), which caused him not to grow regularly. Although, there was a cure for his condition, his family didn't have the money to pay for it. Therefore, Messi ended up moving to Spain with his father to get the money he needed for the medicine. Throughout his childhood, Lionel had many struggles. However, he had more strengths than weaknesses. That's what makes him a renaissance man!

GHD means Growth Hormone deficiency. This happens because the body doesn't produce enough hormones which causes people to not grow. Lionel got GHD when he was ten but that didn't stop him from playing soccer. He never gave up and when he was 13 he was offered a position playing for Fc Barcelona. This would pay for his condition but he would have to leave his mother in Argentina. Lionel messi moved to Spain at the age of 13 with his father. I imagine leaving some of his family in Argentina was very hard but he moved for a good cause. Messi now has won the Ballon d'Or 5 times. I am not very tall so knowing messi wasn't tall either and is now the best player in the world has given me great respect for him.

Messi moved to Spain?!?! Yes, Messi did! In fact, he moved to Spain to pay for his deficiency. He played for FC Barcelona as a 13 year old! His first game was in 2004 when he was 17 years old. He scored his first goal for the club on May 1st, 2005 against Albacete .Since than, Messi has made plenty of records. In fact I was at the game where he made the record of fastest sub hat trick which he did in 19 minutes against panama in Copa America. Messi is still young, and I can't wait to see what he does in the future.
