What is Matter? By Erielle kawaja

Matter

Matter is everything the has mass and takes up space.

Matter can be broken down into two parts PURE SUBSTANCES and MIXTURES.

........................................Pure Substance ....................................................................... Mixture..........................................

Pure Substance

Pure substance is a substances that are made of only one type of atom or only one type of molecule. Pure substance can be an element or a compound.

Elements

An element is a substance consisting of atoms which all have the same number of protons.

Here is a video of the different elements.

A pure substances can also be a compound.

Compounds

a compound is a substance formed when two or more chemical elements are chemically bonded together.

Here is a video on compounds

The other apart of matter is a Mixture

Mixture

A mixture is a material system made up of two or more different substances which are mixed but are not combined chemically.

There are two type of mixtures. They are Heterogeneous and Homogeneous.

Homogeneous

A homogeneous mixture is a solid, liquid or gaseous mixture that has the same proportions of its components throughout a given sample

This is homogeneous.

Solution

There is a part of homogeneous called solutions. A solution a liquid mixture in which the minor component (the solute) is uniformly distributed within the major component.

this is an solution

Heterogeneous

A heterogeneous mixture is made of different substances that remain physically separate.

This is an example of heterogeneous.

There are two parts of heterogeneous. They are Suspension and Colloid

Suspension

A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture containing solid particles that are sufficiently large for sedimentation

Colliods

A mixture in which one substance of microscopically dispersed insoluble particles is suspended throughout another substance

Here is a video to explain a little more.
