Galley Hill Primary School Newsletter 8th November 2019

Welcome back. I hope that you all had a fantastic half term. It certainly has been a busy week this week as you will see with all of the pictures and information in this weeks newsletter.

House points

This weeks running total for house points:

School Life

Year 6, despite the weather, managed to go on their walk through the woods up to the top of Roseberry Topping. They had a great time, sketching, drawing and finding out more on the local area.

Year 1 were visited by Guy Fawkes and did some wonderful work on him and firework night.

Year 2 have been looking at estimating numbers and how to place them on a number line. They have really improved their number sense this week.

Year 1 have also been visiting the library, to share their love of reading and read in a new environment. We are looking to promote the love of reading across the whole of school this half term, so keep up that reading.

Aldi Kit for Schools

We are almost at the deadline for this. We are on poster number 4 though! Thank you so much for your support on this so far. There will be a final push for this in the next couple of days before the deadline of Thursday 14th November.

Poster number 3...

Sports captains and house captains

Now that we have school council and Head Boy and head Girl firmly established. The next step to promote leadership skills with the children is for Sports Captains and House Captains to be introduced. This will be for upper Key Stage 2 children, to experience different leadership skills. I look forward to sharing more about this with you next week

Nursery Pick up

Please could I ask that if you are picking your child up from Nursery, that you do not walk down to the KS1 playground fence. Recently, it has been causing quite a bit of disruption during a lunchtime. I appreciate that you will want to see older siblings and children, but it can be a bit chaotic as a result. Thank you for your co-operation on this.

Anti-Bullying week

Anti-Bullying Week happens in schools across England each November. This year's Anti-Bullying Week has the theme Change Starts With Us and is happening from Monday 11th November - Friday 15th November 2019. We will hold an odd socks day on Wednesday November 13th.

Just a little thank you. After the parent mail asking if anyone could help with the Freezer that we had on the school grounds, we had a rescue phone call from Mr. Shutt who said he would remove it. Thank you.

Remembrance service

This Sunday there is a Remembrance Parade with children and parents from the area being invited to join the parade from 10:30am at Westgate. This will move on at 10:45am. the children will join the back of the parade and head to the memorial, where a wreath will be laid. This will be followed by a two minute silence before, those wishing to, enter the church for the service. This is not a school organised event, but if you would like your child to take part, with your supervision, then please do join along. I will be there with the Head Girl to represent the school.

Finally

Have a fantastic weekend and I look forward to sharing with you what we have done next week.
