Principal’s Column

Hi everyone! We have had a successful transition back to school for our Foundation to Year 2 students. I have been very impressed with all our students returning to school. Many happy students back at school has most definitely brightened up the school once again. We are looking forward to seeing more brightness coming our way with the return of the Year 3-6 students. Remember to bring those water bottles with your name on it!

I have a few things to mention this fortnight. Now that things are semi settling in back to normal, I thought it would be a good idea to keep you updated on some of the things we are currently working on to making our school great!

WE VALUE YOUR INPUT

Pre-Covid-19, we asked families to provide the school with input into the school’s vision, general feedback, parent involvement and communication. We have received feedback from 29 families out of 380 and are looking to get more. We would love to get over 50% of our families letting us know what they believe our future vision could be.

It is a quick survey... (I know who loves a survey, right), but it is for the direction of the school and I’d love to read what the people want! Thank you :)

Implications From Covid-19 - Programs/Events Postponed

Due to DET guidelines, Stephen Sharpe is not able to work onsite. As a result, our Music program will be temporarily postponed until advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer will allow for his return. Stephen will continue to work remotely, working with classes online as well as working on providing media communication to our community, such as our Virtual Assemblies and inspirational video clips.

Under DET advice, external providers, such as our private music teachers, are not able to provide tuition to our students at this stage. When this advice changes, we will let you know.

Due to the uncertainty of if/when business will reopen we have decided to postpone some of our annual events until 2021. Fingers crossed, next year we will be able to go to camp and hold our biannual concert. Depending on the advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer we may need to postpone other events such as our school athletic carnival and our student-led exhibitions. We will keep you updated.

We are now taking enrolments for 2021

If you have a child who will be joining us next year, please call Stephanie in our office on 9354 1660 to organise an enrolment form. School tours have been temporarily postponed in all Victorian Government schools.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Next week you will receive communication on Compass regarding our Parent Teacher Interviews. Our interviews will look differently this year focusing on how well your child has transitioned back into school, how they performed during remote and flexible learning as well as an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns you may have.

This Semester's Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place in the last week of Term Two, on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th of June, from 3:45pm – 7pm.

If you need a longer time, we would like you to contact your child(ren)'s teacher directly to make a double booking.

Meetings will be taking place either online via WebEx, or by phone. Your child’s teacher will inform you of which platform they will be using. Please ensure that you stick to your meeting times.

Change in Day in Lieu for teachers: Due to COVID-19, we have decided to move our day in Lieu, previously scheduled for the last day of this term, to September 18 (last day of term 3). This has been approved by School Council.

Annual Report

Our Annual Report is up for public viewing on our school’s website. Every year all government schools hold an Annual Public Report Meeting where the general public is invited to discuss the school’s annual report. This year, due to COVID-19, this viewing is postponed until we receive advice from DET on when we are able to do this. We will let you know once we get confirmation.

Holiday Program Update

School Council has formed a Holiday Program working party where members from School Council and OSHC meet to discuss the proposals for having a holiday program at Coburg North Primary School. We are in the process of organising interviews with the short listed companies. Once the working party has made a decision, it will be presented to School Council for approval. We anticipate that we will have a holiday program running for the Term 3 holidays and beyond. We will let you know once a decision has been made.

Inclusive Playground Update

We have received a draft plan from our architect (Richard Bryant Alsop) and are currently working on fine tuning it with our Playground Working Party. We are almost finished the planning process and will share the drawings with you next fortnight. This is a very exciting time as we are hoping to have a new playground in by the end of the year (hopefully earlier). Just by looking at the drafts, it is looking really good. I can’t wait to share these plans with you and see them in action.

That is it from me. Until next fortnight, stay safe and enjoy the long weekend with your family.
