Elephants Our best friends

Elephants are the largest land mammals.

Wild elephants live in families called herds-herds are made up of female elephants.

The only males in these herds are calves.

The leader of the herd is usually the oldest female.

In the wild,a mother elephant has help with the babies from other elephants.

Elephants only eat plants, grass and fruit-they don't eat meat.

A healthy adult elephant can drink up to 60 gallons of water each day-which is the same as 275 big bottles of coke.

Scientists discovered that elephants can sing.

Elephants love to swim.

Female elephants are called cows.
