Birmingham Riots were provoked by bombings that took place on May 11, 1963. After the attacks african americans in the area started to riot because of the police involved and were restrained by the Birmingham Police Department.
“We are not going to stand for this in Birmingham,” he declared. “And if necessary we will fill the jail full and we don’t care whose toes we step on.” - Bull Connor
