We also celebrated all the wonderful things happening in classrooms last week at our annual CVPS open evening. The classrooms were buzzing with students showing off all their work from this year. Thank you to all our families who attended this event and for spending some time taking in all the things your children are learning; celebrating their successes with us.

Our athletics carnival will be held next Friday (17th September). Please check the program which was sent out yesterday via email and make note of the changes we have implemented for this year. In particular, please note that the team games and the sprints have been flipped around in the order they happen on the day. Also, a lunch order form was sent home... If you wish to order lunch for the day, please do so by Wednesday 15th September. There will be NO recess orders on this day - Lunch only! (If you scroll to the bottom of this newsletter you'll see the order page if it has been lost in the school bag!). And a coffee van has been ordered so you can relax - we have it sorted!

Please also note the following staff changes happening in the coming weeks. Ms Della-Vedova is currently on leave and this will continue into next week. I will then be on leave for Week 10 of this term and Week 1 and 2 of next term. Mr Hogg will be principal in my absence. I am a Millennial which means whatever you say or do to me is always on record. - Millennial Generation

Here’s to the 1980’s and early 90’s…….. that iconic era that brought us fitness, yuppies and the internet boom. Not to mention pop culture, spandex and the idealistic new romantic movement. But perhaps this time will best be remembered for sparking the birth of a new generation, the Millennials. Also known as Generation Y or Echo Boomers, this group are predominantly the parents of our current Gen Alpha’s………Yes, that would be you, Mum and Dad!

Dubbed one of the most innovative and adaptive of the generations, Millennials make up the group of adults ranging from their mid 20’s to mid 40’s. Shaped by major world events such as the Gulf and Iraq conflicts and 9/11, this is the Generation who are currently impacting the world ecconomically, politically and socially. Your time is now.

So who are Generation Y?

Whilst Millennials can sometimes be viewed as being self absorbed, constant career changing attention seekers, the reality is much different. These are the characteristics that sets Millennials apart from the other generations.

1) Millennials value education and learning as an essential requisite for a productive life, regardless of the cost..

2) Millennials are self-confident, ambitious, and achievement oriented yet still open-minded and transparent with a propensity to overshare.

3) Millennials are highly motivated with an innate civic consciousness and positive world ideals.

4) Millennials appreciate opportunities to work collaboratively with flexibility making them very adaptive to change.

5) Millennials will question authority although, are also most responsive to receiving favourable feedback and acknowledgment.

5) Millennials have an instinctual understanding of technology which is their preferred way when solving issues.

6) Millennials seek to maintain a healthy balance between work and home, and will often sacrifice longer work hours and potential earning for more family life.

So, who better to sum up this generation than the words of American entertainer, Zendaya, “My generation has the opportunity to change the world.” Amen to that!
