Dear Eastsiders

As I engaged in proverbial "water cooler conversation" with some of the Eastside staff this week I realized again that the church of Jesus Christ really is the hope of the world - not only for those who have realized the life-giving potential of the church, but even those who have yet to understand the power of Jesus.

For example, through Abbas Pride, the church at Eastside are able to bring hope to hundreds of families through the family to family project. Many fathers, mothers and children will go to sleep having had enough food to eat because the church in action provided them with a meal over December. This past Sunday, as we baptised Erika, we also witnessed first-hand the public declaration of someone who has been changed through the ministry of the church.

A very special moment as Robyn baptises her sister, Erika

Will you help us extend this help even further? There are two immediate ways you can help us as a church to minister to people around us.

The first is by inviting your friends and family to this week's CAROL SERVICE. The gates will open from 4pm, and we would love to see the gardens filled with your family and friends enjoying a picnic together before we move into the hall to start the Carol Service. This year, we will look at the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary. Pray with me that people who do not know the power of the cross will come to know Jesus for themselves! But, also take a practical step in inviting someone to join you. You can send them this link to our Facebook page with all the information: http://bit.ly/ECCCS2711

The second way is a simple, practical one. We have several people who will be going to hospital over the next two weeks for operations (and even the birth of an Abbas Pride baby!) and we would love to serve those families by assisting with meals for a few days after their hospital stays. This is a practical way you can serve - either by preparing a frozen meal to be delivered to the church, or by preparing a fresh meal to be delivered to the family home. If you can help in any of these ways, please click the link below to let us know.

We are excited for a great weekend ahead! Don't miss it.

The Men's Breakfast

The Eastside Men’s Breakfasts are legendary for the good food and great fellowship. On Saturday, 12 November the men gathered in the shadow of the building for fear of raining wet, and with a bunch of skottels and their own two hands made a lip-smacking breakfast. DIY in action!

Breakfast was followed by a time of fellowship and sharing.

If you haven’t been to one of these men’s events, then keep an eye out for the next one early in the new year. They’re always great fun!

94.7 in Aid of CHOC

This past Sunday a team of guys rode the 94.7 to raise funds for CHOC. At the centre of the team was Dave Crewe-Brown in his cow suit, on an ice-cream cart. They were the 1st ice-cream cart over the finish line in a time of 5hrs 9mins. Well done guys!
