What is ECET2?
Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers (ECET2) is a conference that brings together a community of teachers and aims to empower and connect them professionally as educators. The conference is designed, planned, and executed by teachers for teachers. It provides teacher leaders with an opportunity to hone their craft by sharing best practices, developing their leadership skills, and celebrating the teaching profession, ultimately preparing and inspiring them to affect positive change for students. The power of ECET2 is multiplied as participants bring new knowledge, skills, inspiration, and excitement back to their school communities. The model is intentionally designed to grow the pipeline of teacher leaders in Hawai‘i, and eventually extend out to the community.
ECET2.HI focuses on creating an experience that reflects the below values:
Nurturing trust among teachers
Focusing on each teacher’s potential for growth
Inspiring both the intellect and the passion that drives teachers in their work
Providing time for collaboration and learning
Putting teachers in the lead
Recognizing teachers as talented professionals
Our ECET2 History
In February 2016, a small group of teachers organized Oahu's first statewide ECET2 event that brought together 90 teachers from all islands. They were elevated by teacher keynote speakers, teacher-led breakout sessions, and colleague circles, and were celebrated with an evening event at the Governor's Mansion.
In 2017, our ECET2 statewide convening grew to 100 teachers. At the end of the convening, the teachers were asked what they would "bring back" to their school communities. 5 groups of teachers (from Kauai, Molokai, Honolulu, West Hawaii, and Campbell Kapolei) decided then and there to bring the ECET2 movement back to their own communities.
2018 & 2019
2018 and 2019 saw 9 Hawai'i regional ECET2 events come to life. Over 650 total teachers attended the events on West Hawaii, Oahu, Molokai, and Kauai.
In past years, the generous support of community individuals and companies made our ECET2 weekends ones that our teachers will always remember. If you are interested in continuing to support education in Hawai'i by providing this high quality professional development for teachers, visit the below link to find out how you can get involved.
I also appreciated how community businesses supported ECET2.HI. It made me realize that we are valued and not in this work alone." ~ Participant of ECET2.HI
