AP EXAMS

• AP Testing money was due November 2nd, however, there is a significant amount of students who have yet to submit the exam money! Please do so immediately! Exams must be ordered in February, therefore it is critical to have the money submitted. The exam cost is $94 per exam and $142 for AP Seminar and AP Research. COURSE SELECTION

Counselors will do grade level assemblies for next years course selection on February 21st & 22nd. Students will be given instructions on choosing their courses in HAC. Counselors will visit English classes to meet with students individually starting March 11th.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

● The Longwood Teen Volunteer Program is an eight-week summer program that provides high school students with an opportunity to become part of the Longwood Team. Students will gain work experience and learn leadership skills in a positive and enriching environment. Students will have the opportunity to earn volunteer hours and give back to the community all while making new friends. Participants in the Teen Volunteer Program must volunteer a total of 18 hours consisting of seven, two-hour placement shifts and two, two-hour Thursday Horticulture sessions. ● SummerCollab through AmeriCorp is seeking students with a passion for community service who are at least 17 years of age with excellent communication skills and a love for working with children. The ideal candidate for this program will drive an intervention literacy program to aid in assisting the youth in literacy gains during the summer months. Participants in this program will receive a living allowance, the Segal Education Award, leadership and management experience, along with the pride of making a significant impact in the lives of children and communities. The minimum service hour requirements is 450 hours (inclusive of training). Training and professional development will be held March-June, during pre-season. COLLEGE PLANNING

● We are so excited that seniors are starting to receive their college acceptances. To celebrate, we are asking seniors to fill out a college pennant for every college they are accepted to. We will be displaying these outside of the guidance office. Students can get blank pennants from their English teacher or in the guidance office.

● Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Sigma Zeta Omega and Zeta Omega of Newark and Wilmington have implemented the College Application Program (CAP) to provide additional support to aid students in the college application process. Juniors and Seniors who would like assistance are encouraged to utilize the resources provided by this free workshop - C.A.P.S OFF TO A DIFFERENT WORLD! ● Senator Carper’s annual Service Academy Information Night will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Del Tech Terry Campus in Dover from 6 – 8 pm. Students and parents are welcome to meet representatives from our nation’s service academies and learn more about the application process.

● The University of Delaware and TeenSharp are partnering to host Conquering College Admissions, a conference for first generation college students. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or and/or in the top 20% of their class. Students will gain an understanding of the college admission process, awareness of various types of colleges, resume building techniques, and resource information. Breakfast and lunch will be provided as well as conference materials. This is held March 26, 2019 at the University of Delaware Perkins Student Center. ● DEXSTA Federal Credit Union is currently offering a $1,000 scholarship to eligible high school seniors! To be eligible you must be a high school senior and a member of DEXSTA Federal Credit Union and complete a 500 word survey. All applications are due by January 31, 2019. ● The Delaware Association of School Administrators are offering an opportunity for a $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship is intended for students who are enrolling in college immediately after high school and majoring in Education. All entries are due by March 31, 2019. To apply, a 300-500 word essay is to be written on “Why I Chose Education as my Career Field” and complete the forms located on Schoology.

● Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are offering up to $1,000 in scholarships. Those who are interested must submit an essay through their scholarship page. ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY

● The Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp, located at Lebanon Valley College, is being held from June 23-28th. This summer camp with provide students with a window of human health through lectures and hands on experiences. Students will be introduced to molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, biochemistry and neuroscience through laboratory experience and investigative experience in a fun and challenging college environment. ● Edge, the Summer Program held by University of Delaware, is offering a five week, credit-bearing college experience from July 7-August 10, 2019 for juniors and seniors.
