Daily Tasks of a Summer Camp Director:

  • Attend training and weekly staff meetings
  • Develop and direct activities
  • Supervise daily check-ins and check-outs of all day campers
  • Direct all staff and volunteers assigned to work with leads for group activities
  • Track and assign staff to weekly roles
  • Manage budget
  • Maintain and stock equipment
  • Maintain weekly camp records
  • Practice and enforce all camp safety and emergency regulations and procedures
  • Abide all camp policies
  • Responsible for all health and well being of self, staff, and campers

Work Schedule:

  • During summer months a camp director works mostly around the clock
  • Work week can consist of 80 hours
  • Typical work week when summer is out is 9-5


  • Typical salary is $15,000-$50,000 depending on size of camp and the responsibilities

Work Environment:

  • Close working quarters
  • Always outdoors

  • Fun

Problems That Can Arise:

  • Directors may not have time for family or make one
  • Social Interaction is limited to people inside of camp on daily basis
