Where are you from?
I was born in Bluefield, Virginia which is a town on the Virginia-West Virginia border, but I moved to Reedsville, NC when I was 5 years old so that is where I call home. It’s a rural town about 30 minutes north of Greensboro.
What made you interested in working for the Carolina Union?
I knew I wanted to work on campus because of the convenience of working near classes. I really enjoyed how the Carolina Union was student funded and focused, so I thought it would be a good place to see if I could work. I didn’t know what position I wanted until I saw the opening for Facilities Assistant. I love working with my hands and doing manual labor, so I chose that position when applying. It was a great choice for me because my boss and coworkers are great and I love what I do.
Tell us some things you like to do aside from work?
Aside from work I like to spend time with my family and friends. Most of the time I’m in the gym, on hooker fields playing football, or on the basketball court. I’m a member of the Rifle and Pistol club so I spend a lot of time in the range and teaching others about safe ways to use guns. Camping is also something I like to do, I’ve been camping with some of the Full Time staff employees from the department.
What is something most people wouldn’t know about you?
My cousin is Ahmad Bradshaw, a running back in the NFL. He spent most of his career playing for the Giants and then a couple of years playing for the Indianapolis Cults. He won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants! Three years ago I got to see him play against my favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. It was great! My team lost pretty badly, but that game he got over 1000 yards.
Where is favorite place to be on campus?
My favorite place in the Union is probably ‘The Shop’. It’s the office where most of my department hangs out. I feel like it’s the only place on campus where I can talk openly about things. It used to be just a long hallway of storage before it was renovated and now it’s a workshop. Some of the staff still calls it ‘Long Storage’, but it definitely looks like a shop now.
If you could choose one song that defines you, what would it be and why?
I listen to a wide variety of music, but if I had to choose a song it would be “Grace Like Rain” by Todd Agnew. The song talks about forgiveness and reminds me of how I’m blessed in so many ways.
