Homecoming Thrifting and Spending Antioch Community High School Students find their perfect dress during homecoming season.

Homecoming season recently finished after a week of school spirit, ending with the dance on Saturday, October 26. Many preparations were needed in order to buy, alter, and end up wearing the perfect dress. Students were able to get their dress from a variety of sources including retail stores, online and from thrift shops.

“I got my dress at Plato’s Closet for about nine dollars,” freshman Julia Kraus said. “The quality was good and I would definitely thrift my dress again because you will have a unique dress that nobody else will have.”

The dress pictured above was purchased at Plato’s closet for nine dollars. Thrifting a dress was the easiest option for freshman, Julia Kraus. Plato’s Closet is a secondhand store, always rotating clothing items in and out as patrons donate and buy clothes.

Thrifting is a way to find unique dresses for less money compared to other stores. Thrift stores may have dresses of different styles that wouldn’t be found in more popular stores. Students that were looking for a unique dress are drawn to obscure places.

“I thrifted my dress from Goodwill for about seven or eight dollars,” sophomore Samantha Sy said. “It’s pretty good quality, not my favorite dress but it worked out in the end.”

Thrifting could have the potential to fulfill a buyer’s dream dress criteria, but the search may be more tedious. Although thrifting is a viable option, other students found their perfect dress by looking in retail stores.

This piece was bought from Goodwill for eight dollars. Goodwill is a discount store selling items that are brought in as donation. The convenience and good quality drew in sophomore, Samantha Sy.

“I got my dress from Gipper Prom for 120 dollars,” junior Kelsi Sheren said. “It is very high quality, I feel that I can move around in it and it will not rip or tear.”

Gipper Prom is a source of many homecoming dresses seen at ACHS. Many students’ dresses are over 100 dollars, but they offer a wide selection that students could choose from in order to find the right dress. Buying a dress from Gipper could open up possibilities for dresses of different sizes, colors and styles.

Whether it was thrifting or buying something from a popular store, finding a dress for homecoming was a task that students personalized based on what they wanted.

This dress was purchased from Gipper Prom for 120 dollars. Gipper Prom is a seller of high end dresses for higher prices. The quality and durability of the dress is what made junior, Kelsi Sheren want to wear it for homecoming.
