LGA NEWS EDITION 13, DATE: 20 March 2020

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

This Newsletter will be the last one for a while as we start the period of school closure announced by the Government. We are all hoping that the closure will be as short as possible, but recognise that the Coronavirus presents a significant challenge for us all and that it may be some time until we can resume our normal business. We have provided lots of work and activities for students to do at home and we will continue to keep you updated with news and further guidance when needed.

On a much more positive note, I would like to thank the students and staff who were involved in the amazing production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Please enjoy the pictures of the cast in this newsletter. I was able to see it on Thursday evening and thought it was a wonderful performance that showed the spirit and huge talent that Lord Grey students have.

In the meantime, I hope that you stay healthy and fit. These are extraordinary times and often in the moments of greatest difficulty, people come together to support each other. I know that in our close knit community this will be the case and I urge you to look out for one another, support those who are vulnerable and draw strength from knowing that there will be better times ahead. Jim Parker, Principal.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

On Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 March, Lord Grey showcased two live performances of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. There were seventy five students involved in the production, who were either performing, helping in the wings as backstage crew, manning the lights or assisting backstage with hair and makeup (primarily to get our Oompa Loompa's ready!). Students were also involved in creating our amazing set and props, along with the help of staff from Creative Technologies - whom we couldn't have done without! In addition to this, we also had a live band accompanying all of our songs for the show, which was made up of both students and staff who were absolutely brilliant (and very loud!)

The students worked incredibly hard since October 2019 to put this production together, to make it as utterly fantastic as it was!

Big congratulations to all the students involved and for all their hard work for pulling off such a wonderful show. And a huge thank you to ALL staff involved in every way, no matter how big or small, we couldn't have done it without you!

PRINCIPAL STAR AWARDS

Congratulations to: Lewis, L10 who received a Bronze Award. Well done and keep up the good work. #lordgreycan!

rotary winners for the second year - a fantastic victory!

Showing the tasks, which helped the students to victory!

Last week twelve Year 10 students went to Brooklands Campus for the Rotary Competition and came away winning the trophy for the second year in a row.

Their task, to produce a portfolio and to create a 'flashing light' without touching or interacting with the model at all. They came up with a pendulum concept, which flashed 40+ times and was the winning score! A fantastic achievement and we have won £200 for the DT Department plus the students will be visiting the Aston Martin factory. Congratulations to the winning team: Owen, Oliwer, Cody and Josh.
