Degrees Not Debt
NEA continues to look for ways to address the needs of our members as well as provide them with the most value for their membership. One of the ways that NEA continues to do that is through the Degrees Not Debt program. There are a number of ways to restructure college debt and work toward having student loans forgiven. NEA wants our members to be aware of programs offered through the Federal government that will help get educators on the path to loan forgiveness. We have attached a PDF of frequently asked questions regarding Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), as well as an employment certification form with additional information regarding this program, to the email with this month's newsletter.
What's Next??? Election 2016
The 2016 elections have come to a conclusion and for Kansas our new elected officials have a herculean task ahead of them to try and unwind the disastrous tax policies of Governor Brownback. Thanks to the hard work of KNEA and many of it's members there has been a shift in the State Legislature that will help restore the Kansas budget to a more sound fiscal foundation. Unfortunately the Presidential election could turn out to be a terrible blow to public education and the students it serves. President-Elect Trump's nominee for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos is a perfect example of an anti-public school advocate. To learn more about his nominee and to make your voice heard on the importance of public schools check out the links below.
Using Technology and Social Media in the 21st Century classroom
How can you use technology and social media in the classroom?
It seems that social media continues to dominate the lives of our students. Everywhere you turn kids are on there devices tweeting, texting, snap chatting, instagramming their way through the day. How many times do you find yourself trying to get the students to put down the device and pay attention in class? Well, if you can't beat them join them. Check out the article below that will give you some ideas on how to incorporate technology and social media into your lessons. Before trying any of these ideas make sure that you are familiar with your District's Technology and Acceptable Use Policies.
KNEA NEEDS YOU!!!
We need to hear from you!!!
KNEA and UD 114 continue to look for ways to address the needs of our members and in order to do that we would like to hear from our new to the profession members (in your first year of teaching). We have put together a very short survey that takes less than 10 minutes to complete and would provide us with valuable information that will be used to provide our members with the services that are most important to them. You can take the survey in 3 ways: 1) Use the KNEA App and click on the Educator Survey link in the lower left hand corner 2) Click on the first link below and fill out the survey online 3) Go "old school" and print off the survey using the second link, fill it out and send it back via e-mail, fax (785) 227-2234, US Postal Service or carrier pigeon whichever works best for you. Please take some time to take our survey, we would really like to hear from you.
