Takeover By: Amelia Haveron

“Quick, throw me the gun!” I screamed to Finn as I sprinted towards Jeff. I’m definitely not going to die like this, not today.

It was the most dreaded day of the year, the first day of school. It’s about 6:30 in the morning and I was rushing around the house trying to get to the bus on time. I ran out the door just as the bus was screeching to a stop at the corner of the street. I sprinted as fast as I could as I was yelling goodbye to my younger brother, Finn.

Our mom had mysteriously disappeared 3 years before and we had never met our dad. It had been just me and him since then. I hopped on the bus breathing very heavily, there was only one seat left and it was next to a boy holding a weird suitcase as a backpack. At least that’s what I thought it was. He was very skinny and had black circle glasses. He had brown shaggy hair, and was wearing a blue and white striped polo shirt, and khaki shorts. I had only one choice and it was to sit next to that kid. Everyone on that bus looked like they were about to fall to the ground from exhaustion. Except for the boy. He actually seemed really happy and excited for the day. It was weird and I didn't trust him but, I didn't have a choice.

"Hi! I'm Jeff!" he said, very loudly considering how early it was.

"Hailey" I replied with a suspicious look on my face. Then, all of a sudden, everyone on the bus went out like a light, including the bus driver. It looked like they were all dead, except for the fact that I could see their chests moving up and down with each breath they took. I looked back at Jeff and he had a creepy smile on his face. I started to get scared. I didn't know if this was normal at this school. I was a new student and I was thinking this was a prank. Yeah, it's just a prank, I told myself, you'll be fine it isn't even possible to make a bunch of people fall asleep at the same time. They probably do this to all the new kids.

Jeff looked at me and said, “Hello, Hailey. Let me get right to the chase. I am an alien from the planet Lorkonite and I have taken your brother,” How? I thought, I just saw him two minutes ago. “The only way to get him back is to join my army and kill off every human on the earth so me and my family can take over the planet.” I didn't know what to say, I was speechless. “You have 30 seconds to decide. Starting now.”

It took me about 3 seconds to decide what I wanted to do. I was not going to let them take Finn, they couldn't do that.

"Ok, I'll do it," I said. "On one condition. You have to let me use weapons as well." He looked like he was considering it, and then a few moments later, he spoke, startling me.

“I will allow it.”

“Thank you, but, what are we going to do with a bus full of kids?” I really wasn't asking, I was just trying to get him to trust me, so when I retaliated with my master plan, he would let his guard down.

“I have something that will help with that,” he said, as he took a weird tool out of his suitcase. It looked like a hairdryer but about 5x bigger. He pressed a green button, and everyone on the bus started floating about 3 feet in the air and then all at once, got vacuumed into the hairdryer tool thing.

“Um, alrighty then,” I still didn't know if this was a prank. “We should probably get going.” The sooner I started my master plan, the sooner I would be back with Finn. I looked around, to see if there were any weapons I could pick up. No luck. I still didn't think that Jeff trusted me enough to give me a weapon and I didn't want to take my chances.

“Are you coming?” Jeff called out from the front of the bus.

“Yep!” I said as cheerfully as I could. I looked around and out of the corner of my eye I saw a little boy running from a crowd of red creatures. I did a double-take, it was Finn! I thought of a lie really quickly, “Look!” I said. Someone escaped your tool." I ran off the bus, not looking back, to see that the creatures were catching up with Finn. I didn't know if I would get there in time. I wasn't going to let them get Finn, he was all I had left. I finally caught up with him.

"What's going on?" He said between sobs.

"It's ok," I said, "Everything is going to be ok.” I told him. We were hugging now, but our problems weren't over yet.

Jeff was nowhere to be seen. He had probably turned into one of those red creatures as well. Now, I was a target, not an ally. I had to get some weapons, and fast. I looked around all over the ground and saw the suitcase. I ran over to it and opened it as quickly as I could.

It popped open and all I see is Jeff’s face. I got so scared that I punched it. He climbed out of the suitcase and called over his friends in a weird language that only they could understand. While he was doing that, I grabbed the suitcase from the ground and started looking around for any weapons. I spotted a switch in the corner. It must have been the thing that made everyone fall asleep.

I flipped it but nothing happened. It must only work on humans. The aliens were still talking in their language, probably making up a plan to kill me and Finn. I scan the suitcase one more time and I see the hairdryer weapon. It's worth a shot, I thought and took it out. I hid it behind my back and lured the aliens towards me.

“I'm not going to hurt you if you don't hurt us,” I lied to them. I quickly took the weapon out from behind my back and pressed the button. Thankfully, all of the aliens started floating towards the weapon and got pulled in. Except for one. Jeff.

I saw a button that was bigger than the other one I had pressed before. I hit it and I got lurched forward, but the bigger button was actually working, Jeff was trying his hardest to restrain, but he was being pulled towards me! Finally, he got pulled in and the loud sound that the hairdryer was making slowly died down. I looked down a Finn, breathing heavily.

“Come on Finn,” I said, “let’s go home.” Me and Finn walked hand in hand all the way back to our house. When we got there the door was open. We walked in slowly

“I didn't leave the door open when I left.” Finn whispered.

“Shhhhh,” I said to him, “stay here, I'm going to search the house.”

“No, I coming with you, what if something bad happens to you, I don't want to lose you.

“Fine,” I agreed, annoyed, “be quiet though. We walked to the kitchen and standing there was a familiar woman.

“Finn, Hailey!” she exclaimed.
