What should we do about moder Syria?By: Joshua jacqUes
What are Chemical Weapons? The general and traditional definition of a chemical weapon is a toxic chemical contained in a delivery system, such as a bomb or shell.
The Convention defines chemical weapons much more generally. The term chemical weapon is applied to any toxic chemical or its precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation through its chemical action. Munitions or other delivery devices designed to deliver chemical weapons are also considered weapons themselves.
What are the effects of Chemical Weapons? The toxic chemicals that have been used as chemical weapons, or have been developed for use as chemical weapons, can be categorized as choking, blister, blood, or nerve agents. The most well known agents are choking agents, chlorine and phosgene, blister agents, mustard and lewisite, blood agents, hydrogen cyanide, nerve agents, sarin, soman, VX.
Since 2012 there have been 82 chemical weapon attacks in Syria. The worl wide law around chemical weapons was astablished after World War One, As a result of public outrage, the Geneva Protocol, which prohibited the use of chemical weapons in warfare, was signed in 1925. The devastating impact chemical weapons have had in the past, and the potential for the use of modern—even more deadly—chemical agents not only by States at war but in other violent conflicts and by non-State actors, provide that international effort to uphold the ban on such weapons and to work towards the complete, global elimination of chemical weapons.
How has the country responded to the latest chemical weapon attack in Syria? The United States attacked a Syrian air base with roughly 60 cruise missiles in response to the chemical weapons attack blamed on President Bashar Assad. I agree with this response. Not only because it did not kill any innocent people, but because it got the message across. No country, can or should, use any chemical weapons on people. President Donald Trump did the right thing and took proper action. Some might say that it was hypocritical of him based on the Refugee ban, and they might say this is him stepping in the Middle of their battle. The truth is that it has nothing to do with the refugee ban, and it has everything to do with human rights and morals. I do not believe that this is him stepping in the middling of there battle, but telling the world this is not acceptable. He did not hurt any innocent people, and the workers there had plenty of notice to get out. Therefore, I feel President Trump responded in the best possible manner.
