Snapshot 10 FEbruary 2017

Dear friends

I continue to be challenged by our theme verse for the year - Acts 4: 13

"When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."

On a personal note, this is my mantra for the year. It is my sincere desire to be known as someone who has been in God's presence in a way that causes people to be drawn to Jesus. Years ago we sang a song with these words, "in the presence of the Lord there is peace, in the presence of the Lord there is love, in the presence of the Lord there is healing...". The words of this song personify the quality of life that we can have when we pursue God's presence.

Won't you join me and make this your mantra for the year? Why not make this the year where others will know that you have been in God's presence? Why not make this the year where you yourself enjoy God's enduring presence?

Vision Focus: Loving the Unchurched

Consider parking further away from the main entrance so that visitors can park closer and feel more welcome. This will also help our welcoming team identify visitors more easily.

Sit two rows closer to the front than you normally would. When visitors arrive, if all the seats are filled up from the back it’s very intimidating for them to have to find a seat closer to the front. It will also help if we filled up from the “garden” side of the hall. In the past, some visitors have even opted to leave rather than find a seat closer to the front.

Be intentional about looking around for new faces and introducing yourself to anyone you don’t know. If you find out they are visitors, you could help them to the Welcome Café for a free cappuccino.

Catching the Vision: A Testimony

I love Vision Sunday. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's my favourite service of the year.

Why? Because I like feeling like part of the community. When Riaan gets up there and shares what God has planned for Eastside for the coming year it renews the fire in my belly and the passion in my heart.

Loving the Unchurched

It's so easy to rest in my comfortable little bubble. With my comfortable christian friends and our comfortable, familiar conversation. I'm the Queen of Comfort. But this week I've started praying more purposefully for discomfort and thus with greater conviction for those who don't know our saviour. The overflow of these prayers has been that my 7-year-old is suddenly asking about his friends who don't believe in God and together the two of us have begun to pray for opportunities to show them that Jesus loves them.

It seems like a small thing, but many small things together make a big thing and I'm excited to be part of that.
