THEME

The Great Gatsby is about a man named Gatsby who would do everything he can to live with the love of his life - Daisy. But for a man that has everything in his hand, the fame, money,... he still could not finish place his finale piece for the puzzle - Daisy.

After he succeed in his career he made, he used his fortune to created a house that always have party every night, and hope for Daisy will come someday.
Although he tried to makes party every night, it does not working it seems. And also, because of "upset" with Daisy, Gatsby knew everything about her. From Daisy's favorite sport, her favorite kind of music, ... and of course, he also knew about Daisy's cousin which is Nick Carraway.
When Nick came to Gatsby's party for the first time, he was so confuse: :" I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited"(41)
After have a meeting with Nick, Gatsby talked about Daisy and asked for Nick's help. Gatsby and Daisy finally met each other after 5 years.
Everything was in the plan, until Gatsby lost his mind and could not control the anger of himself. Gatsby shout at Tom Buchanan:" SHUT UP!! SHUT UP!!! SHUTTTT UPP!!!"
After the chaos, Daisy and Gatsby went home together on the bright yellow car. On the road, with the unstable mind and still a bit afraid of Gatsby anger, Daisy was the driver and did an accident.
After they all went home, Gatsby met Nick and commit:" but of course I''ll say I was. You see, when we left New York she was very nervous and thought it would steady for her to drive - and this woman rushed out at us just as we were passing a car coming the other way. I all happened in a minute, but it seemed to me that she wanted to speak to us, thought we were somebody she knew. Well, first Daisy turned away from the woman toward the other car, and then she lost her nerve and turned back. The secon my hand reached the wheel I felt the shock - it must have killed her instantly."(chap 7, 396-398)

CHARACTERIZATION

Jay Gatsby, also the name of the book" The Great Gatsby". The author - F. Scott Fitzgerald is "Nick Carraway" in the story. To "Nick", he said that Gatsby is " the single most hopeful person I've ever met". Gatsby had a miserable childhood, but he went through it. Then he dropped out of college, and went to Lake Superior where he met the person that changed his life - Dan Cody. Although he got cheated and the only thing he gets is how to act and talk like a gentleman, that's still a good thing. After Gatsby was drafted into World War II and fought, he met Daisy - the girl in his heart. When the war is over, he came back to New York, and make money depends on bootlegging alcohol and connections with local gangs.
Tom Buchanan has the quote to describe him:"He had changed since his new haven years. now he was a sturdy, straw haired man of thirty with a rather hard mouth and a supercilious manner. two shining, arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face and gave him the appearance of always leaning aggressively forward"
Quote: "they are a rotten crowd," I shouted across the lawn. "You are worth the whole damn bunch put together."
"I had been drunk just twice in my life, and the second time was that afternoon"
