Usually Shortened cakes are typical birthday cakes and any type of celebration. Some characteristics of a shortened cake is that its fat that can be used is butter, MARGARINE, and SHORTENING. A lot of these cakes have frosting and crumble on the outside of the cakes. But for this cake to be brought all together and make it a scrumptious cake tit needs to be brought together by eggs and the leavening agent in this cake is chemical. Some types of shortened cakes are devils food cake and american butter cakes

STEPS

PREHEAT oven to 350°F for metal and glass pan(s), 325°F for dark or coated pan(s).* GREASE sides and bottom of pan(s) and flour lightly. Use baking cups for cupcakes.

BLEND cake mix, water, oil and eggs in a large bowl at low speed until moistened (about 30 seconds). BEAT at medium speed for 2 minutes. POUR batter in pan(s) and bake immediately.

BAKE in center of oven at 350° F following chart below. *Add 3-5 minutes to bake time for dark or coated pan(s). Cake is done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. COOL cake(s) in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove cake(s) from pan and cool completely before frosting

3 cups sifted cake flour (not self-rising)

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk
