Fig tree & recruiting #2 april Week 1

Hey gang. We're still in the teaching of how we "get new volunteers to join us".

Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree. I saw you there before Philip called you." John 1:48

Here starts the story of recruiting. But first, start by reading John 1: 35-51.

No, really, you have to start by reading that. Come on, go for it :)

We'll learn more today

Which you will read in our Jedi academy at the end of this Jedi News!!

Easter first.

We want every team member to serve on Easter.

I really want every team member to serve on Easter. Because that is our time to shine!

Why do I want you there? Well, here's why
  • I love you so much I WANT to serve with you
  • I don't want the enemy to rob your blessings
  • The kids miss you
  • We are incomplete when you're not here with us
  • We count on you
  • You are an addition to our fighting squad

Easter is our time of battle

Your people willingly follow you when you go into battle. ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭110:3‬ ‭NET‬‬

As a team member, your great ministry is to point kids to Jesus, to allow parents to hear the Gospel of peace so they can give their lives to Him and become fully alive. You should g and take your own blessing for serving, and not leave it to others.

Let us push together, pull together, laugh together, win battles together and enjoy the blessings together

The principle of Firsts

Pastor Robert Morris, of Gateway Church, shares how to develop a habit that will help us make sure God is first in our lives. Our obedience to this principle reveals the condition of our hearts.

Go answer ponder these things, for your own growth
  • April 4th - GROW 6:30-8:30 PM
  • April 5th - It is my birthday :)
  • April 9th and 23rd - VO @ 8:30 & 4pm Invite your friends to join us
  • April 23rd - Baptism
  • Good Friday prayer night: 7-8 PM

Richard Ramos, with Christina by his side, is now the First Time Families (FTF) coach. And since I love them so much, i decided to put their best picture in here !

They are still leading Echeck also with a great team of leaders. The echeck team and FTF one will be our WELCOME team. Their servant's hearts and attitude will keep on welcoming our team of volunteers, parents, kids and new families.

Easter is coming.

It will be great. Tons of people have been becoming fully alive and committing their lives to Christ. This is a time for us to be a blessing and be blessed at the same time! We will also have a carnival feel to the services. It will be great.

  • Saturday 6PM
  • Sunday 8, 9:30, 11:30 AM. 1:30, 3:00 and 5PM.

Which 2 services are you helping out with?

  1. I know every one gives on a regular basis, but Easter is not business as usual. So we don't invest like our usual selves

Really? What are you learning ministry wise with from your coach or Team leader?

  • Pray for Coy and Melissa Sizemore as they transition to our Spotsy campus where they will be a blessing. Qui Gon Jinn, you will be missed. Do not forget their daughter Kaelei who also makes this move.
  • Courtnie Wolfe (Quest) is getting married with John this Saturday. Pray for them in those final details that need to be managed!
  • Let's pray for FUTURE NEW VOLUNTEERS! We've added many new team mates
  • Jennifer Morse's father, our VO and connection coach, has undergone hip surgery and need to recover and gain strength
Last week of our series

Specifics in environments

In order to better assess where and how many "real" volunteers we have, i will ask each environment to fill out a new document on Sundays.

It's basically a "roster" document. Teammates (you included!), you just need to write your names down and check how many services you ministered. Simple. Efficient.

This document NEEDS to be signed

5PM teams: we have a new thing

Every week, we have some material that goes to garbage at the end of service.

We gotta make this together guys :)

  • empty or empty water bottles
  • every piece of paper that is not reusable (lesson scripts, small/large groups script, extra craft stuff, etc)
  • Extra weekly handouts

Every week, we have some material NEEDS to come back to me at the end of service

This page is in your folder in EACH environment. Here's what to do whit it

  • Look for the noted material
  • Bring it back to the Production area in the Quest theaters.
  • There, you will find a small plastic bin where it is noted "Recyclable"
  • Put it in there.
  • Check the list :)
  • And thanks for doing this.

Fill out your attendance sheets, they are not optional!

  • Easter is coming soon, and you will get a great opportunity to be live out some "Christ-decision making". Get ready for it.
  • Before worship, during the 5 minute countdown, make sure all is done before the 4th minute. The last 30-45 seconds, our Large group leader will call everyone to the front and amp up everyone for worship

  • Make sure your rooms are clean when you leave. Another group is coming after you
  • When you starts your service experience, make sure you use the "intro" document so can ease in the topic of the day for our younger ones.

  • Make sure you keep ALL MATERIAL available for the 5PM team
  • You're doing great guys!

  • There is a a transition plan that will happen for our 5th graders. They're heading to our Student Ministry environments and small group. More on this in the coming weeks.
  • As leaders of that group, have an attitude of worship when you join Quest 2-3 in the theater. They will follow your lead. Participate. I should see and hear you singing and having fun

These need to be given away EVERY WEEK!

  • Make sure you keep one copy of each document at the 8AM service in case we need need to make copies.
  • Lately, we have been missing stuff for the 5pm service, which is not normal. We print enough material for everyone, every week. You will get your stuff for small group specifically assigned to you, for your service.
  • Fill out you attendance sheets, they are not optional!
  • Let's keep welcoming the parents. Parents trust us with their precious ones, so a good "HI" is always appreciated.
  • Snacks are now put in every room instead of being centrally stacked
  • Try to memorize some parents' names this week

Nice cellphones there! I know how important the phone is.

  • You can text with it
  • You can call with it
  • It brings oxygen to your life, really. Some actually suffocate if they don't hold it.

But the cell phone does not help you connect with the kids and parents! Here's what King Solomon had to say about this in Proverbs 3: 2, 4.

I give you good advice. So don't turn away from what I teach you. My father taught me. He said, "Hold on to my words with all your heart but keep your cell phone in your pocket. Then you will live.

What do you think?!

Honor is not only about words, it's about actions
  1. Let's honor every single one of our teammates by cleaning up our area after your done serving.
  2. We also honor by being on time at VIPs!

So, have you read John 1: 35-51?

The fig tree is funny in this story because Jesus uses it to tell Nathanael (v 50) that his previous excuse (v. 46) was a bogus one.
  • Nazareth? Can anything good come from there? Nate was asking Philip. "Come and see was his answer".

And this story is all about recruiting people. In this case, Jesus' first disciples...who were John the baptist's disciples!

Here are a few reasons why we "recruit" people.
  • You believe in your cause: you point kids to Jesus and help parents at the same time. There is no greater call.
  • Quote the Word on this one "My God will meet all your needs." Philippians 4:19
  • Everybody has God given talents that should be used for the glory of His grace (1 Peter 4:10)
  • Parents should invest in their kids spiritual lives, at home yes, but also in partnership with us (Proverbs 22:6)
  • We all need to be mobilized for our children's spiritual sake.
  • I want, you want, everyone to be blessed in giving (Galatians 6:7-10)
  • You love serving with people!
Here are some images of what every single one of us are.
  • Ambassador: representing our ministry, our kids, our teammates
  • Fishing line: we throw our line, trying to catch one person, and somebody will bite at our offer of serving!
  • Fishing net: we throw our nets to many, and many will join us! Talk to a few parents at a time.
  • Promoter: you make you environment known (VO, foyer, Small group, Grow, everywhere!). You're selling the idea of serving with the best team...and everyone know, YOUR team is The absolute best.
  • Scuba diver: you're digging deep to find some pearls, you prospect people in order to find a diamond lying there, not doing much!
  • Talker: Yup, you talk to people! You invite them in, you ask them to join you
Here's a few thing that you NEVER do when recruiting!
  1. Sound like people are doing you a favor if they serve with you. "It would surely help us if you could..." Parents, friends are responding to God's call to serve, and you're the messenger for that! You are giving them a chance to accomplish something in life and in the church
  2. Never sound desperate "We SOOOO NEEEEEED you, NOW!", even if it might be true. Who wants to get on the Titanic after it hit the iceberg! Talk about the blessing, the joy to serve instead, the opportunity to build something.
  3. Consider like something minor people's interrogations. People have a right to question, understand, check out what they're getting into. Let's take their questions seriously and answer them seriously also.
  4. Underestimate somebody's potential. Everyone is gifted. Everyone. Read 1Timothy 4: 14, 2 Timothy 1:6
  5. Say we take anyone. Because we don't. There are people who could possibly not serve on our teams (abusers for example).
  6. Make people feel guilty if they don't serve. I believe in #1 and a willingness to serve should come from the heart, not guilt or fear (Acts 20:35, Romans 6:13, Hebrews 6:10, 1 peter 4:10)
And you should always
  1. Be honest with people about expectations and ministry. Honesty will be the basis of trust.
  2. Present the serving opportunity as a blessing, because that's what it is, a blessing! Tell the person what you are looking for, say great stuff about your team.
  3. Make it easy to join your team. If they believe it's worth it, they will easily join you
  4. Mention how great it is to serve by telling them stories of stuff happening in your environment. Stuff like "Jimmy started singing with us", "Shiona gave here life to Christ in our small group", "We calmed a mom when she walked in" etc.
  5. Get their curiosity going. Invite them to talk to your teammates, check out the environment, talk about the last team meal you had, etc.
  6. Explain the benefits of serving. Pleasure of helping, possibility to develop your talents, joy of giving, the call to serve, marking history by changing a kids trajectory in life, develop log lasting relationships to name a few
Next Jedi News, how to deal with people's excuse to not serve ("Is there something good that can come from Nazareth?") by giving them a fig tree answer ("I saw you under the tree!").
  • Talk to one parent this Sunday...come on, we can do this!
  • Plan your Easter service schedules by next week.
The things you have heard me say, entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
  1. Become 3 deep in all of our leadership positions by June 30th
  2. Recruit 30 NEW volunteers by March 31st . We're at 34 counting last weekend's VO!
  3. Every week, show 1 person something they should be doing in your place!
  4. Talk to 1 parent per service, every week. Many will join the team!

Every parent should have the blessing to see these kids being pointed to Jesus
