MLK Day - Did you know . . .
- The Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday was signed into law in 1983 by President Ronald Reagan.
- The first time the holiday was officially observed in all 50 states was the year 2000.
- The petition for the MLK holiday was the largest (six million signatures) in favor of an issue in U.S. history.
- Dr. King was a Baptist minister.
- Dr. King's efforts played an important role in ending legal segregation in the U.S.
- Dr. King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
