What is a GSA?

A Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is a student-run group which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia and transphobia.

Wait... Do I need to be gay to join?

NO! The “A” in GSA stands for alliance! A GSA is for students who identify as LGBTQIA* and their allies. Anyone who is supportive of LBGTQIA issues is welcome.

*LGBTQIA = lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual

I'm interested... But what does a GSA do?

GSAs typically have three functions.

  1. Provide Support
  2. Build Community
  3. Take Action to Create Change

You can see more about those three functions here. At its core though, a GSA is meant to support LGBTQIA students and their allies… so your GSA can be what YOU are interested in making it!

Previous activities have included social discussions, issues/current events discussions, a school-wide announcement series to increase awareness of black LGBT icons for Black History Month, and attending the Central PA LGBT Leadership Summit. Other ideas include an LGBT+ book club, LGBT+ movie discussions, and more. The sky is the limit!

Meetings held virtually every other friday at 2pm

Interested in Joining? Other Questions? Contact Ms. DeGuzman at ndeguzman@palcs.org or 610-701-3333 ext 1141.

See you there!
