A Boy Named Yousif L4LME: Fr. Andrew shares stories from N Iraq

This is Yousif.

Yousif lives in the village of Rumta in Northern Iraq.

I met Yousif's mother in May 2017 while distributing bread to villages in Northern Iraq. (I'm the one in the middle.)

Yousif's mother asked me to come to their house to meet Yousif.

Through our translator, Yousif's mother told me his story.

Yousif had surgery on his back, leaving his legs unusable. The only cure is surgery overseas and that isn’t likely to happen. She asked me to pray for him.

We prayed... unction, anointing with oil...

laying on of hands...

praying for healing... praying for a family...

My new friend Yousif cannot use his legs, but he loves the ball I left with him. He slides around the floor with the football as you see.

A week or so later I returned to the village of Rumta with small, stuffed toys for the children. Yousif chose the two in his left hand. Everyone else got one - but Yousif... well Yousif got two!
