We can do Hard Things

Practice Makes Perfect

Each month Serene Lake conducts Emergency Drills to help staff and students be better prepared in the event of an emergency. Drills are a critical component in providing a safe learning environment for all students and staff. Drills provide students and staff with training on how to respond during any number of different emergency situations that may occur at school. Drills build confidence and help ensure staff and students respond properly in an emergency. At Serene Lake we conduct no less than one safety-related drill each month school is in session. This month we will be holding an Earthquake Drill as part of the "Washington Great Shake Out" on October 18th.

Honoring our veterans

All parents, relatives, friends, and community members associated with Serene Lake Elementary School who have served, or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces, are invited to send a photo of themselves and related info to Mrs. Nancy Thompson, music teacher, to put together a slide show honoring our military friends and family members.

Photos from your time during service are welcome and encouraged! Please email your photos and info to Mrs. Nancy Thompson by October 29th so she can put the slide show together in time for Veterans Day.

Email: ThompsonNJ@mukilteo.wednet.edu

If you submitted photos and info last year and are still a Serene Lake family, Mrs. Thompson will automatically include that unless you want an updated photo.

What happens when a student or staff member tests positive for COVID?

When a student or staff member tests positive for COVID, the school immediately identifies close contacts. They notify only those close contacts. In some cases, it could be just a few students, or it might be an entire class or more. Each situation is different. Generally small numbers of students are identified. If in fact an entire class was to be quarantined parents would be alerted to that fact.

Students who were close contacts will be asked to quarantine for 10 days since last contact with the person who tested positive. If you have more than one student attending Serene Lake only the one identified is considered a close contact. Your other child may attend school unless the quarantined student is symptomatic or test positive for COVID. Then the sibling would be a close contact and need to remain at home.

The school shares close contact information with Snohomish Health District who follows up with those families so they can quarantine appropriately, if needed. If you are not contacted by the school or health district, you do not need to quarantine as your child was not identified as a close contact.

Serene Lake Lunch Program

At Serene Lake, our focus is nutrition and overall health of our students. Our menus offer a variety of healthy choices. They are designed to meet or exceed the USDA Guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns please contact our nutrition Services department at 425.356.1212.

The USDA has extended the waiver to continue the program through the 2021-2022 school year, which allows all students to have access to meals for free.

Safety Matters

  • Always turn RIGHT out of the school entrance during Pick-up and Drop-off times.
  • When using the student drop off service, have students exit on the passenger side.
  • Do not park in the handicapped parking spaces unless you have a handicap permit.
  • Never leave your car unattended at the curb/drop off lane. (If you need to get out, find a parking space in the lot.)
  • Please help us by being aware of our crossing guards and students who are walking both in the morning and the afternoons. Please help us with this important safety issue.
  • The drop off loops in the front of the building are for buses only. No cars are allowed in the bus loops during school hours from 8:00AM to 4:00PM.

Just a reminder, the playfields and big toys are closed to the community during school hours (8:35AM to 3:45PM). We invite you back to campus after 3:45PM, when classes are dismissed and all students have left. There is no student supervision before 8:35AM or after dismissal, at which time parents take responsibility for their child’s safety.

The Fall Book Fair is coming October 25-29.

Students will have an opportunity to shop during classroom library time. More information will be coming soon.

Spooktacular is going mobile!

We will be hosting a drive-thru scavenger hunt event through the Serene Lake community where families can collect candy and puzzle pieces to locate Ollie the Otter. Costumes are encouraged and fun is required!
