After a long time of Spanish rule the Cuban people rebelled.

The American press reported the tragedy in Cuba.

President McKinley sent the battleship USS Maine to Havana.

Events in Cuba triggered the Spanish American War.

About 17,000 American troops nearly a quarter of them being African American.

The US and Spain signed the Treaty of Paris.
