From March 29 - April 6, over 1,200 sailors from around the globe will compete at the 50th Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofía Regatta in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The regatta is regarded as one of the most competitive events featuring all 10 Olympic classes (in addition to five non-Olympic classes), and is a common annual stop on many athletes' campaign trails.
For many members of the US Sailing Team and Squad, the event is more than an opportunity to train for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The regatta is the second of two selection events for the 2019 Pan American Games. Athletes in the 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 classes will have a chance to represent the U.S. this summer in Lima, Peru. The table below displays leading sailors who earned contention at the first selection event, the 2019 Hempel World Cup Series Miami.
