Where has all the Wisdom Gone? Is the Bible God’s Word? How do we Respond to Gender Confusion? Why do Students Walk Away from the Faith? Do Good things in Life Point to God? And many more.

Bob Bates - Alaska Bible College

Robert Bates (B.Sc, Th.M) came to faith in Christ at the age of 11 in Sydney, Australia. God led him into the science field and he became, first, a science teacher, and then the head of the science department in a private college in West Sydney. Almost ten years later, a persistent conviction from the Spirit led him to leave the school system and move to Texas with his American-born wife, Linda, and study at Dallas Theological Seminary. While there, they spent two summers doing missions in Romania. Bob was encouraged by many there who survived decades of extreme persecution. His wife Linda ministered in the cities, in many orphanages, and many housing complexes. At Dallas Theological, Bob found his role of being the International Student Adviser very rewarding. He learned the difficulties internationals face when adjusting to training in a strange 'western' country. Pulpit experiences in Texas, Mississippi, and Alaska helped him understand the importance of the communal applications of the scriptures in church life. At Alaska Bible College, he has had to be flexible, teaching more than 30 different subjects from every category of the curriculum. His passion at ABC, and in local churches, has been to make the Bible's message clear so that the power of the Spirit can do His work in the hearts of people. His hobbies have always been visual media; photography, oil painting, and graphic arts.

During that time he flew the F/A-18 Hornet in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and the F-16 on an inter-service exchange tour with the USAF. He is the author of One of the Few: A Marine Fighter Pilot's Reconnaissance of the Christian Worldview, which tells the story of how he came to the faith. He currently works as an F-22 Raptor simulator instructor pilot and enjoys performing stand-up comedy. He and his wife Karry are the parents of seven children.
