Adoniram Judson Presented By: Mia Bond

Adoniram was born August 9, 1788 Malden, Massachusetts. He died in 1850 at sea. His father is Adoniram Judson Sr. and his mothers name is Abigail.
When Adoniram was young he taught himself how to read at the age of three. At the age of ten he learned Latin and Greek. He was a very serious student.
When he was sixteen he went to Collage at Brown University and Andover Newton Theological School. That's where he learned the language Burmese. Three years later he graduated as valedictorian of his class.
In 1812 he married Ann Halleltine. In 1826 she became ill and died. Then in 1834 he married Sarah Hall Boardman. They had Eight children, and only five survived. She soon died in 1845. Finally, he married Emily Chubbuck in 1845 and they had two children but unfortunately only one lived. He also had a son named Edward Judson.
When Adoniram was in school he met a man who was skeptical of his faith. His name was Eames and he led Judson away from Christ. Eames got ill and died. It shook Adoniram up and he promised that he would never turn away from God again.
In July 1813, Judson traveled to Burma, India. He opened his first preaching place in 1819.There he translated the Bible to Burmese. He founded a hundred churches while he was there. In the mid-1820's , when the First Burmese War with Britain was in happening, Judson was imprisoned by Myanmar forces. His wife was free but was still struggling to spread the word of God. After the war he was set free but his wife and child died of some illness. He continued to preach until he died.
Adoniram Judson once said, "There is no success without sacrific. If you succeed without sacrific it is because someone has suffered before you. If you sacrifice without success it is because someone will succeed after." -Adoniram Judson
He is honored with a feast day on the liturgical calendar of the Episcopal Church on April 12. In Myanmar, Baptist churches celebrate "Judson Day" every July.
