Moments that Matter May 2019

Fishing with Friends Brings the Community Together Through a Shared Love, Fishing!

On April 19, individuals supported by CCHS, along with a great group of volunteers, gathered at Prairie Oaks Metro Park for a day of fishing and fun!

After being paired with a community volunteer, individuals headed off to cast their lines in the hopes of catching some big fish. Unfortunately, the fish had other ideas! Everyone still had a great time, and after the fishing wrapped up, participants gathered to enjoy a picnic lunch.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who came out to lend a hand. This event would not be possible without your help!

Our next Fishing with Friends event will be held on June 13, 2019 from 9a-1p at Hoover Reservoir. Volunteers are needed, so if you are interested, please click the button below to sign-up!

Fishing with Friends is made possible thanks to generous funding provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

CCHS' Career, Activity, & Community Program Manager named Ohio Health Care Association's ID/DD Manager of the Year!

Congratulations are in order for CCHS' own, Amy Yerian, on being named the Ohio Healthcare Association's ID/DD Program Manager of the Year! She was honored during a special awards ceremony at OHCA's Annual Conference last week.

Amy has been with CCHS for more than 20 years, and with the CAC since the very beginning. She is a highly-competent, compassionate, and caring leader, and we could not be more honored to have her on our team. Way to go, Amy!

Art Through Her Eyes: The Transformation of Tommi Lee

In celebration of April's Autism Awareness Month, the King Arts Complex is showcasing the work of Open Door Artist, Tommi Lee Gillard, herself on the autistic spectrum, in Art Through Her Eyes: The Transformation of Tommi Lee.

TLC by Tommi Lee Gillard

About the artist: Tommi Lee Gillard was born in Cleveland, OH on April 9, 1993. She was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. She participated in Positive Education Program (PEP) in Mayfield Heights, OH for Behavior Modification. In 2004, Tommi Lee moved to Columbus, OH with her mom and attended several public schools. In 2007-2012, Tommi Lee received an autism scholarship and attended Haughland Learning Center as their first female student. In 2007, Tommi Lee also received a kidney transplant from a donated kidney from her sister Cierra. In 2012-2015, Tommi Lee attended Reach Educational Services in Upper Arlington, OH. Tommi Lee is currently attending Food for Good Thought Bakery, Open Door Art Studio, and Shopworks Theatre. Her interests includes; shopping, listening to music, art exhibitions, computer, and wearing make-up. Tommi desires to become a model one day.

From Tommi Lee's Mother: “I had no idea that Tommi Lee had art skills until I saw her first piece of art from Open Door Art Studio. In addition, since she has been attending Shopworks Theatre, she is becoming more engaged and confident in her abilities to express her thoughts. As a parent of a child on the autism spectrum, we know how easily frustrated they become when they can’t articulate their thoughts. The arts is both therapeutic and transformative.”

There is still time to see this exhibition, but do it soon! Art Through Her Eyes: The Transformation of Tommi Lee closes on May 10th. | Directions

She pulled over in a safe area and contacted me to let me know. I called Chris who had just finished his route and he went to "save the day." He picked up her individuals and transported them home so that the driver could bring the vehicle she was driving back to CAC." - Stacy
Tiffany Price (ADS): "Tiffany fills in on the floor when Sue is on vacation. She takes the lead and helps all the staff and individuals with what they need. You are a ROCKSTAR!" - Victoria
