My strengths in the interview was that I handled it well given that I wasn't expecting to be in class today or fully prepared for the interview. She was also impressed on what was listed on my resume and passion behind video editing. My weaknesses was certain parts of the resume were written in paragraphs, which is unnecessary. She also said that for resumes in this field, it helps to have visuals on it. Another weakness is not discloses the Type 1 Diabetes to employees during the interview, which makes sense. From the interview, I learned that it helps to be prepared, having answers to potential questions they'll ask ahead of time, and more tips for my resume. To make myself a better interviewee, I'll correct those mistakes and take her biggest advice of showing myself being more "well-rounded" by being more social or showing that I can be social such as joining clubs. This is something that I've struggled throughout my life because I've focused all my time on education and video editing skills to where I have no social life and I do intend on improving upon this throughout college. I can also look at more resume examples on the internet for inspiration.
Video With A Purpose: Top 3 Tips For Freshman From Seniors
Why did you decide to do the project you did? How does this result in a meaningful video? I decided to do a project based around advice for freshman from seniors because there were a lot of information I learned about scholarships that would have helpful to know about as a freshman instead of being told not to worry about it until junior and senior year. I don't want future freshman to make those same mistakes, which sparked this idea to make a video on advice from seniors. While doing some research, most people who make similar videos repeat the same generic tips I could easily find on Wikihow. I won't deny that the advice given from the interviews in my video is anything "special" either, but it results in a meaningful video because I focused on three main aspects that the Skyline Class of 2018 and average high schoolers struggled on throughout freshman-senior year rather than the reoccurring advice. Those tips were; Maintaining GPA/Grades [because even one bad grade in Freshman year can have you ending up losing scholarships], Getting Involved In School Activities [because we often have too many regrets when we miss out on amazing events], & Being Yourself [because people need to know it's okay not to try and fit in the crowd rather than being depressed their own lives].
What new Premiere Pro techniques did you use to edit your video? One of the main techniques I used to edit this video was nesting sequences. Each interview was its own separate sequence so I would be able to sync up the "back up" audio to replace the staticy audio from the shot micphones. Each part of the video relating to a different piece of advice was also its own sequence so I could cut pieces in and out without having to re-sync the audio. When the final versions of the three advices were finished, I placed those in the master sequence. Plus, using nesting sequences made it easier to make changes that would still carry over to the master sequence. I did utilize the lessons from Lynda tutorials on titles and keyframes to make the interview titles less generic. I also looked up simple title animations and learned how to change the velocity speed within keyframes so the titles would transition slowly in and out faster. It's not necessary a technique, but I did make sure the audio levels remain around the -6db to -12db range (depending on when the interviewees audio peaked) so the viewer can hear the audio clearly without having to raise the volume. I did notice the initial audio was too quiet when I played a copy of the video at home, which is why I made those changes. Lastly, I used the color editing techniques from Bailey's lesson to lower the exposure and adjust the colors accordingly to each interview.
Give a thorough evaluation of the results-including a score for line three of this rubric. Truthfully, my self evaluation for this project is a score of 16 "Meets Expectations--I Like It". The reason for this is because I believe that the video serves its purpose of tips for freshman from seniors that they actually would want based on extensive research and still delivers great value. The project also gives opportunity to practice video editing skills and techniques as previously mentioned. However, the reason it's not a score of 20 is because I do admit that are some minor audio "pops" in Liliana's interview that was minimized without losing what she had said. Background audio is also still present, which again, I tried to minimize with Audition. Part of that was due to the locations where the interviews took place and there wasn't always an option of being able to pick that ahead of the interviews. Given what I had to work with regarding minor audio issues, I believe I still came out with the best product possible without more time to reshot.

Reflection: Discuss your role in the process. Give yourself a grade out of 50 on your contribution to the overall production.
My role in the agriculture video process was leader of the group and making sure everything was finished on schedule. It was a rough start at first because the footage we received from the FFA was choppy, starting a topic without any context and then cutting it at the end. For contribution, I give myself a 50 out of 50 because I helped sort through the many files sent to us; labeling and timestamping the topics discussed and which clips can be discarded. I also edited down the interview footage of Tom Kourlis into small sections that Austin could use when I couldn’t be in class on the due date and edit the titles and logo into the video.
Prompt Project: Little Red Corvette
Reflection: What was your prompt and how does your film relate to the prompt? How did you come up with your ideas?
The prompt for the video was "Little Red Corvette." Our film relates to the prompt since the goal for the two students is to escape their classes early and get to their red "corvette" without being caught. We came up with this idea after we realized the script we had for original prompt we were going to use, "Always there to remind me", wasn't working the way we wanted. We struggled to come up with a story for that prompt. The idea for the video we shot was improvised soon after. There were changes to the final script because certain scenes were either shot differently than we planned or we improvised some dialogue a couple scenes of both students in the hallway. As for the project itself, the only concern is the sound because either the music is too loud or you can't hear the parts of dialogue we want the viewer to listen to, mainly because I talk so quietly even when I'm speaking to Austin. We decided to leave the audio of each scene where we snuck around the hallways because if you pay attention, you can still hear the background noises, which give it the feeling that it's real, like the two students were trying to ditch their classes.
Shot Reverse Shot
Reflection: Discuss the process of scriptwriting. Have you done that before? Have you used the format learned in class prior to this assignment?
The process of scriptwriting for this project was not difficult, but it was time consuming because every line of dialogue and type of shot used in the film had to be written down. The part that took a long time was rewriting the script in the format learned in class, particularly the dialogue since it all had to be written in caps. I have written scripts before for other video projects. I have used a similar format in the past, but I rarely use it anymore because of how time consuming it is when I could just write the dialogue and edit footage as I go. This format is helpful for a large production or video project, but not something I normally always write down. As for the video, the only issue was long pauses between certain scenes and forgetting to turn on the microphone for a couple scenes, which was resolved immediately after finding that out.
This project was an interesting one, to say the least. There were a few challenges as well as multiple things going wrong after the production stage. One challenge was utilizing the Manual settings on the camera while filming. I would like to say that I was probably messing with something I haven't fully understood, which is why the interview and B-Roll footage looks grainy & just slightly out of focus. It isn't enough to ruin the video, but it is noticeable if you really look for it. The zoom microphone also failed to record the audio from the interview. The file was nothing but static. Luckily, I always record a backup because I had a feeling something would go wrong. Editing the interview down to 3 mins was hard because he had a great story to tell, but couldn't fit within the time resistant and with all the requirements added later.
How'd You Do That Project
Reflection: Write a statement about your experience with using different camera movements. How did you accomplish the camera movements with the equipment you had available? Did you have to give up on any camera movements? What went well, what didn't go so well?
During this project, finding a way to incorporate camera movements was a challenge because I personally saw no reason to use camera movements in every scene. For the successful camera movements, I accomplished this with the equipment I had available by talking with the actor and going over each scene before we shot it. This helped me plan out how to use camera movements in each scene, as best as I can. A couple scenes I did give up on camera movements because after checking the footage, it didn't look good or wasn't what I initially wanted, so I reshot those scenes with no camera movement. The only other thing that didn't go so well was the lighting in the video. As I discovered early on, the light lamp wasn't effective when shooting an outdoor scene with good sunlight. I did leave the light on to see if it helped for the first half of the scenes shot, but decided it was useless in an outdoor environment. Looking back, I should have checked out a reflector to help bounce some light onto the subject's face in certain scenes. The audio picked up from the microphone was good. The exception was the scenes where cars were passing by because the microphone was picking up that background noise and in post production, I realize you could barely hear the actor for brief moments in the video.
2 Minute Story Project
Reflection: Write a statement about your experience with using different shot types. Was it hard to find a use for so many types? What shot types did your find surprisingly interesting? What shots really didn't work the way you had hoped?
During this project, planning out 8 different shot types for the 2 minute story was a challenge because we couldn't use the same type of shot for each one and took a bit of time to plan each shot to fit a certain scene of my video. For me, It wasn't difficult to find a use for so many types of shots because there were multiple ways to film one scene using any of the shot types. I found the over the shoulder shot type interesting because of the way I set the camera to film behind and placing my shoulder to the left side of the scene. The low angle, high angle and close up shot didn't work as well as I had hoped because the angle shots look like they were not really shot from an angle. They still look level to the ground, in my opinion. The close up shot didn't work as well because it was a close up on the eggs, but when I picked the eggs out of the nest, the top part of my hand holding the egg got cut off. Another thing that could be improved is the lighting. It's okay, but I feel like I should have used the reflector more instead of just the last scene because it was hard to see inside the coop without using the reflector.
Color Project Production
Reflection: Write a statement about your experience with your first class assignment. What went well, what was difficult? What did you learn that you can take moving forward with your future projects?
The first class assignment was a fun little project that had us go through the pre-production, production, and post production process of videography. During the project, the difficult for me was making sure the camera settings were correctly to record good, clear footage. Admittedly, it took me 20 mins after charging the battery to figure out how to get the monitor screen to display what I wanted to record. I have never used cameras such as the DSLR, so it was good exposure to try and figure how an amazing camera, with some help from online tutorials. Honestly, the only other thing that could have been better was having better footage because at times, the footage was blurry, which was cut out in post production. The only thing I can think of that went well as how fast I was able to learn the very basics of using Adobe Premier. I know how to edit footage, but never touched that software until now. I can take this basic knowledge of Premier and experience with using the DSLR camera as we move forward with future projects and hopefully get better at the production and post production.
