QUINONES BREAKS RECORD WITH NCAA PROVISIONAL TIME ... Senior Evan Quinones broke his own record in the 800-meter race with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:51.17 at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge Saturday on the campus of the University of Central Florida. Quinones' time is also the second fastest time in the 800-meter in the NCAA Division II this Spring (read more).

KEMBOI TAKES THIRD ... Freshman Festus Kemboi took third place while junior teammate, Bobby Ormsby, was fourth in the 5000-meter race here Friday at the USF Bulls Invitational at the University of South Florida. Kemboi turned in a 15:07.81 while Ormsby was close behind at 15:11.87 (read more).

WOMEN COMPETE IN TWO INVITATIONALS ... The women's track team participated Friday at the University of South Florida Invitational (read more) and then traveled to the other side of Interstate-4 to compete in the University of Central Florida Black & Gold Challenge on Saturday (read more).

SANTOLI EARNS SSC HONOR ... Florida Southern College women's lacrosse midfielder Emily Santoli has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring 10 goals and dishing out six assist in three games last week, helping lead the Moccasins to a 3-0 record and extend the team's win streak to eight games (read more).

8-MATCH WIN STREAK ... The women's lacrosse team cruised past Seton Hill, 21-10, on Saturday to run the team's win streak to eight matches. The Mocs, now 11-2, will play their four Sunshine State Conference matches in succession beginning with a road match at Saint Leo on Saturday.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS ... Meghan O'Brien leads the Mocs with 49 points on 32 goals and 17 assists, while Kendall Kerge is second with 38 points on 34 goals and four assists. Julia Couch leads the squad with 18 assists. In the pipes, Alanna Zambetti has posted a 7.03 goals against average with 38 saves in eight matches while Taylor Gillis has a 10.86 GAA with 42 saves in six matches.

BASEBALL RUNS WIN STREAK TO 10 GAMES ... Led by back-to-back pitching gems by Logan Browning and Jake Walsh, Florida Southern swept Embry-Riddle over the weekend to extend its win streak to 10 games. Browning struck out a career-high 13 batters in an 8-2 win on Friday (read more) while Walsh whiffed 10 batters in an 8-0 victory in game one on Saturday. FSC took game two, 11-1, behind homers by Pablo Cabrera, Mitch Reeves, and Jason Sierra (read more). The sweep gives the 22nd-ranked Mocs an 18-6 overall record. They'll take a 3-3 league mark into this weekend's three-game Sunshine State Conference series with Eckerd.

OFF THE STAT SHEET ... Omar Villaman leads FSC with a .413 mark while Cody Burgess is close behind at .394 ... Mitch Reeves has a team-high eight homers while Burgess is next with seven ... Reeves also is tops with 26 RBI whole while Burgess and Jason Sierra each have 25 ... On the mound, Jake Walsh (5-1) has a team-best 1.38 ERA with 44 strikeouts. Logan Browning (4-1), who has 34 strikeouts in his last three starts, has a team-high 53 strikeouts to go with his 2.90 ERA. Closer Cameron Hanes has five saves.

EQUESTRIAN TAKES ONE FIRST, THREE SECONDS AT UF SHOW ... The Florida Southern equestrian team took a first place and three second place finishes to place eighth out of 13 teams at the University of Florida Zone 5 Show on Saturday. Taking home a first place blue ribbon in the over fence, novice division was Emily Shoaff (read more).

VOTING OPEN IN SAAC VIDEO CONTEST ... What motivates you to play? Sunshine State Conference student-athletes take on this question in the second Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) video contest. Each institution was given an instructions to create a video that was written and produced by student-athletes and incorporated the institution's mascot. MOCS FINISH SIXTH AT SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGIATE ... Led by a one-under par 71 from junior John Coultas, and an even-par 72 from freshman Chase Ibbotson, 3rd-ranked Florida Southern closed out the Southeastern Collegiate with a 295 that kept the Moccasins in fifth place in the 18-team field that featured eight out of the top-10 from the most recent Bushnell national poll (read more: Day 1 | Day 2).

WOMEN'S SQUAD SPLITS TWO MATCHES ... The women's tennis team defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville, 9-0, on Friday (read more), but saw its six-match win streak come to a close with a 5-4 loss to Murray State on Monday (read more). The Moccasins take a 6-3 record into today's 3 p.m. home match against Arkansas Tech.

FROM THE STAT SHEET ... The doubles team of Selin Devrimci and Sasha Nionova has combined to win five straight matches and are now ranked 10th in the South Region. Nionova in undefeated in five singles matches and is ranked 12th in the region ... The Mocs' number three duo of Magda Stepnik and Lorena Rionda has won four straight and is 8-1 on the season ... Natalija Popovic has won her last six matches

MOCS FALL IN ONLY MATCH ... The men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to the University of Indianapolis last Thursday in the squad's only match of the week (read more). The loss leaves the Moccasins with a 7-6 season record.

FROM THE STAT SHEET ... Miguel Alvarez-Hevia has won three matches in a row and is 9-1 his last 10 matches. He has combined with Laurent Mailloux for an 8-3 record at number one doubles. Mailloux us 8-4 in singles as well.

SOFTBALL SWEPT BY BARRY ... FSC found the runs hard to come by this past weekend, crossing the plate just twice in a three-game series at Barry and wound up being swept by the Buccaneers. The losses evens the Moccasins record to 13-13 overall while the team drops to 4-8 in the SSC.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS ... Erica Morrissey tops the Mocs with a .359 average while Shannon Bell has a .351 mark and a team-high 21 runs scored. Leah Pemberton is also over .300 with a .321 average ... Pemberton leads the squad with 17 RBI while Morrissey is second with 16 ... Inside the circle, Brandi Jones is tops with a 1.53 ERA to go with her team-best 40 strikeouts. Kristen Beacham is next with a 2.32 ERA and 34 strikeouts while Kelli Gault has a 2.41 ERA and 22 strikeouts.

Eoghan Conlon '09 has been named the head coach of the Lakeland Tropics for their inaugural season in the USL Premier Development League. The Tropics will play their home games beginning in May at Bryant Stadium. (read more)
