David Villa: NYCFC MVP El Capitan has been named New York city fc's 2017 mvp.

“No doubt about it, I would vote for David for the MVP this year. He's been fantastic for the team, for the league, and I think he deserves that award." - Patrick Vieira

The Head Coach called for NYCFC's captain to receive the Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player Award following the regular season finale. Now, he's one step closer.

The first player in MLS history to score 20 goals in consecutive seasons, El Guaje banged in 24 goals for NYCFC this year, including our first-ever playoff goal against Columbus Crew SC and a hat-trick in the Hudson River Derby.

After giving us the lead in the 28th minute, El Guaje and his teammates found themselves down 2-1 against their Hudson River Derby rivals...

In the 72nd minute, he found the equalizer. Three minutes later, he found the winner.

El Guaje's first career MLS hat-trick brought the house down, and for the first time in the Club's history, command over the Derby's season series.

"I always try to do my best, I always try to score for the team. Today, three goals gave three goals to the team, and I'm so happy." - David Villa

2017 was the year David Villa hit the 50-goal milestone for NYCFC, as well. Who could forget that Rain-soaked day at Yankee Stadium, when NYCFC mounted a comeback to beat the reigning champion Seattle Sounders?

"I'm happy for this history for our club. Of course, the goals are good for me, but they're good for our club. They give points to NYCFC, good memories, good moments, and that is what is most important for me." - David Villa on Goal #50

Villa capped off a year of milestones for himself and the Club by scoring NYCFC's first-ever playoff goal in the first leg of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
