Coker Men's Lacrosse vs. Mars Hill MEN'S LACROSSE PREVIEW

Coker Cobras

The Coker College men's lacrosse team is set to take on the Mars Hill University Lions on Saturday (Mar. 2) at 4:00 PM on the Coker Athletic Field to open South Atlantic Conference play.

The last time out the Cobras came away victorious in their road matchup with Barton College on Saturday (Feb. 23), as took down the Bulldogs 14-10. The Cobras started out the game slow and after one quarter of action the Bulldogs seemed to be cruising with a three-goal lead but the Cobras would respond in the second quarter run a run of their own. Matt Murphy found Jonah Robertson for the first Coker goal of the game and shortly after Denton Wilks picked up an assists on a goal by Joe Venazio to cut the deficit to just one. Murphy and Robertson would connect again later in the quarter, with Murphy firing the Cobras into a tie before Barton grabbed a late go-ahead goal to take the lead into the half.

Robertson and Venazio opened the third quarter with a goal each to put the Cobras on top but Barton would respond again to retake the lead midway through the quarter. Both teams would trade goals with Ethan Irizarry taking the feed from Nicholas Maddox to find the back of the net for the Cobras. The final minutes of the third quarter saw Coker find the back of the net four times with Murphy scoring twice and Venazio and Robertson each scoring once. Irizarry fired a shot past the Barton goalie once again to extend the Coker lead to four early in the fourth quarter but Barton stormed back once again to cut the deficit to just one. Over the remaining five minutes of the game Irizarry, Wilks, and Venazio all scored a goal to seal the victory for the Navy and Gold.

Player to Watch

Venazio had a tremendous first game back after missing the majority of last season due to injury, finding the back of the net eight times and also adding three assists during the season opener against Chowan (Feb. 6). He is not only leading the Cobras in goals with 18, but also in assists with nine.
