Did you know that the city of Bangalore (in South India) has more than 5 million people in it? India is a country on the Asian continent, and it is made up of lush rolling fields, lots of villages (some have no electricity) , tall buildings ( in cities) , and many communities. People come to this country to visit the Mysore Palace, learn about Rabindranath Tagore, and celebrate Navaratri/bomba haba.

Mysore Palace

The Mysore Palace is located in the heart of Mysore City. It is 10 minutes from the city central railway station and from the suburb bus stand. It is 20 minutes from the Mysore Airport. The Mysore Palace is a 3 storied storied structure with colorful walls along the corridors that are decorated with oil paintings. Antiques made from gold, silver, marble and ivory from all around the world are on display.

Some as old as old as 900 years! It is now a museum. Tourists go there to see the beautiful palace when it is lit up with colorful lights. Tourists can also look around the museum. The Mysore Palace was established 500 years ago. The first palace was built in the 14th century but it burned down. What is there now was built in 1912 which took 5 years to build. The queen of Chamaraja Wodeyar X commissioned Henry Irwin, an architect of British India, to design the modern palace. This is now the Mysore Palace.

Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7 ,1861 and he died on August 7 ,1941. He died when he was 80 years old. Rabindranath Tagore was home schooled , although when he was 17, he was sent to England for formal schooling,and he did not finish studies there. Tagore was knighted by the ruling British Government in 1915,but within a few years he resigned the honour as a protest against British policies in India. Rabindranath wrote poems,songs,novels,stories,dramas and speeches in fact, he even wrote the Indian National Anthem. He was also a leader of Bramo Samaj,which was a new religious sect in the 19-century in Bengal. Rabindranath Tagore was also the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in literature. Tagore wrote poetry as an 8 year old. Tagore also interacted with Henri Bergson,Albert Einstein , Robert Frost,Thomas Mann and Bernard Shaw. Tagore wrote 8 novels and 4 novellas. On March 25,2004, Tagore's Nobel Prize was stolen from the safety vault in Visva - Bhariti University along with many of his belongings. On December 7, 2004, Swedish Academy decided to present 2 replicas of Tagore's Nobel Prize, 1 made of gold and the other made of bronze, to Visva- Bhariti University. Tagore was renowned throughout much of Europe, North America, and East Asia. He co-founded Dartington Hall School, a really good institution and in Japan he influenced such figures as laureate Yasunari Kawabata. Tagore's works were widely translated into English,Dutch,German,Spanish, and other European languages. Which makes him a very well known writer.

Doll festival dolls

Navaratri is a major festival of the Hindus, that is celebrated in various styles every year. The festival is celebrated for ten days and culiminates on the day of Vijiadashmi or Dasara, the day when Goddess Durga won the battle against the asuras or demons after fighting for 9 days. The Dasara Doll festival also happens in Navaratri . Dasara Doll festival is celebrated in Karnataka through an exhibition of various dolls and figurines arranged per custom. The dolls are arranged and exhibited on a stepped platform having an odd number of steps which is usually 9 steps. Some families have dolls that are hundred or more than hundred years old. The decorations are mostly colorful lights and flowers.Some families make it fancy and some don't and stick to plain. The festival encourages the craft of wood and clay making alive. Navaratri is celebrated like that with many other festivals in it.

Conclusion : What you just saw is only 1 % of beautiful, artistic, magnificent India. This country is known for its populated growth and tourist sites. But what people know little of is the culture and the humility of the people of India. If you ever have the opportunity, you should visit to get an exceptional experience of the beautiful locales, food and awesome festivals through out the year.
