Newsletter 16th october 2020

Headteacher Comment

This week's newsletter has quite a science theme to it. Not only is it an opportunity for us to share some of the learning across the school but also to remind you that Greenfields Primary School and Nursery has been awarded the national Primary Science Quality Mark. This means that we have been assessed as delivering a really high quality science curriculum. Pupils at Greenfields love their science lessons so do encourage them to tell you what they are learning in science and what experiments they have carried out.

We are looking forward to supporting Children in Need 2020 on Friday 13th November. Historically we are fab fundraisers and we've hopefully continue this trend. Due to the use of cash being deemed less COVID safe we are asking that all donations are made via ParentPay this year. You'll see further details below.

Have a super weekend and see you all on Monday.

Science Saturation

This week in Year Six, the children have been busy exploring the saturation points of salt and sugar. They conducted their own fair tests and discovered that salt has a much lower saturation point than sugar, which surprised some of them. They are loving their science lessons this term!

Unicorns in the Playground

Year Two have been learning all about the incredible Storm Unicorn! The teachers even managed to get video evidence of a wild unicorn in the KS1 playground! The children have been discovering facts all about the magical creatures and wrote instructions about caring for them. Some children were so inspired they wrote stories about storm unicorns at home and bought in unicorn toys! Keep your eyes open for wild storm unicorns.

Open Events for Reception Intake September 2021

If your child is turning four between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021 now is the time to apply for their primary school place, and what better place to start their school life than at an Ofsted rated “OUTSTANDING” school?

Due to the current situation across the country, this year Greenfields Primary School & Nursery are giving our prospective parents the chance to attend our open events virtually! You will still have the chance to meet our Headteacher, Sandra Appleby, our teaching staff from our Reception classes, our admissions team as well as see a short video of our school in action!

These events will take place on:

• Thursday 5th November 2020 5pm

• Thursday 12th November 2020 5pm

As well as our virtual events we will also be holding an external and partial internal viewing of the school on:

• Saturday 17th October 2020 9:30am - 11am (Book your time slots at 9.30am, 10am, 10.30am or 11am)

At this event you will have the chance to look around the school from the outside, view the playgrounds, Reception outdoor learning area as well as having a glance inside the Reception classrooms, library and school hall! These events will last 15 minutes, with a maximum of 6 people to a group and we shall be observing a strict protocol for hand sanitizing and face coverings. We regret we cannot allow children to these events.

If you would like to attend any of our virtual events and/or our external viewing event then please book in with our school office either by email at admin@greenfields-pri.co.uk or call 01536 514622

Please read the message from Northamptonshire Police and keep safe.

September 2021 Reception Intake

If you have a child turning 4 years old between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, you need to apply for their place to start in Reception in September 2021.

Greenfields Primary School and Nursery is now rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and as with all outstanding schools the popularity of the school increases. With this in mind, we are expecting to be oversubscribed in our admissions for a place in our Reception class in September 2021. This means that we will not have enough places for the number of children applying and some families will be disappointed and not be allocated Greenfields. More information on admissions can be found on our website

The application process is now available on the Northamptonshire County Council website: click on the button below to apply for place at Greenfields.

If your child is currently attending our nursery and is due to start in our Reception next year, then we do not want you to be disappointed and miss out on a place. You must submit an application before the closing date as places are NOT automatically allocated.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact our school office.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is where you will find Greenfields' amazing virtual classrooms full of chat and lots of hard work! If you have not used Google Classroom before, or you are new to Greenfields, please follow this link that explains how to log on to a PC, Android or Apple device. You will need your child’s email address and password, and the class codes below:

Class Code and Google Link

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.

Children in Need 2020

Greenfields Primary School and Nursery are proud to support Children in Need again this year. Please send your child in mufti on Friday 13th November 2020 and make a donation directly to Children in Need via ParentPay.
