The yacht:
Designed by Philip L Rhodes, whose yacht Weatherly successfully defended the 1962 Americas Cup, Madiba was launched in 1962 at the now world famous Abeking and Rasmussen shipyard in northern Germany.
Built using the toughest German steel, with Canadian spruce wooden masts, teak decks and mahogany interiors, Madiba's 57 ft (17.5m) offers sleeping accommodation for up to 5 guests in 2 double guest cabins and 1 single guest cabin, with en-suites.
Given her pedigree and grace, Madiba is the epitome of the classic ketch of yesteryear. She comes from the era of elegance and luxury, of writing desks and cigars, of Hemingway and Fitzgerald. She spent the first years of her long life sailing the waters of Nantucket and Cape Cod, the stylish 60's sailing playground of the Kennedys and Marilyn Munroe.
The generous aft and fore decks beckons one along for sunset cocktails and star lit dinners, while the main cockpit provides a cool setting for relaxed breakfasts and lunches. Sun-bathing on the foreword, main cabin top and aft decks. Generous awnings keep the heat factor low during the day, allowing gentle breezes to flow through....
Madiba offers sleeping accommodation for up to 5 guests in 2 double guest cabins and 1 single guest cabin, with en-suites.

How it works:
- We will plan a voyage based on your schedule and your wishes - taking into account the seasonal weather.
- Life aboard is as relaxed or as action-packed as you wish it to be - you'll enjoy a mix of sailing, island-hopping, swimming, sun-bathing, fishing, snorkelling, reading, socialising and dining, to name a few.
- Charter fees include meals and some beverages - wine, beer and cocktails are available aboard at cost, or bring your own along !
- 2 to 5 day cruises for up to 5 guests @ US$1,200/day (shorter or longer cruises can be agreed, subject to Madiba's schedule).
Logistics:
- Madiba is based out of Ao Po Grand Marina on Phuket's stunning east coast.
- The pre-cruise meeting point will be at the Port of Call Cafe at Ao Po Grand Marina - bring your swim suit and have pre-cruise dip in the marina's stunning pool.
- Guests can fly in and out of Phuket's International Airport.
- Bring your personal gear in a soft bag - you'll probably need less than you think!
- Snorkel gear on board - just add water!
- Linens and towels are provided - bring along a sarong for post-swim relaxing wear (how can a sarong always be so-right !)
- Cabins are not air-conditioned, but have excellent fans and ventilation - some guests also choose to sleep on the deck mattresses under the stars.
- We carry drinking water and ice on board.
thE CRUISING plan 2018-2019
During 2018 and 2019, Madiba will be based out of Ao Po Grand Marina in Phuket, Thailand, with cruises planned in the beautiful islands of the Western Thailand. Each night, Madiba will anchor off an island most with pristine beaches to enjoy swimming, snorkelling, and general relaxation.
