Headteacher Comment

At Greenfields we try our hardest to give children as many opportunities as possible to demonstrate the values that we instill in our children : Courage, Aspiration, Ambition and Respect. So this week, I am absolutely delighted to be sharing with you the pictures of our new Junior Leadership Team (JLT). Congratulations to all of the children, and especially to Jasmine and Isaac, our new Head Girl and Head Boy, who have the privilege of wearing special silver ties around school. Together with their peers who are Deputies, House Captains, Sports Captains and Digital Leaders, they fulfill many roles around the school, including supporting the Senior Leadership Team (Mrs Tyrrell-Smith, Mrs Kenny, Miss Wood and I) with interviews, book scrutinies, feedback from subjects and insights into how life at Greenfields is like from a child's perspective, and even supporting other children to use IT . The Junior Leadership Team also show visitors around the school, meet Greenfields' Governors and represent the children at school events. A special mention also to Blu and Simge who will be leading the School Council and representing the views of all the classes and their representatives.

Reading in a tree

Two girls reading in a beautiful tree, enjoying the last of the Autumn sun.

Book and Biscuit the Smart Way!

To ensure Greenfields is Covid secure we are not allowing visitors into school. Unfortunately that means parents cannot join their children for 'Book and Biscuit'. Luckily Greenfields never lets the 'new normal' stop us from doing the nice things in class. Smart Snakes have been really enjoying the 'Book and Biscuit' session every week, although we are missing welcoming our families into school.

Scrummy Yummy Reading Rewards

Year Two star readers for this week have been rewarded with a scrumptious chocolate cake!

Ladybirds Fun

In the Two Year Old room this week they have been learning about numbers and practicing their point and count technique to help them understand quantity.

They have also had lots of fun sharing with friends and taking turns with the marble run, they love to play alongside their friends at Nursery. It has been so lovely to see all the different friendships forming, they have been offering their friends help when they need it balancing on the trim trail.

What great friends they all are.

Story Puppets

This week in Year One we invented three new characters for the story. The children all had some brilliant ideas and then had a go at creating puppets to retell their new stories!

Happy Hyenas

Super Skills in Dragonflies

Dragonflies have been enjoying their PE lessons, they have been focusing on balancing . They practiced balancing on one leg then they practiced walking heel to toe on the floor and finally along a beam. Super balancing skills Dragonflies!

The Red Hen meets the Dragonflies

For the Talk 4 Writing story, the children have been learning The Little Red Hen. Today the class had a visit from the hen to ask her some questions from the story. They have been focusing on developing their speaking and communication skills. They loved our visit from her.

Baker Bees

This week Busy Bees have enjoyed The Bakery role play, here they have been using their imagination to pretend to make bread in connection with the story The Little Red Hen. They have had lots of messy fun recreating the bread making from their previous learning.

Journey Invention: Rhino Style

This week the children have been inventing their own journey tales. Take a look at the incredible paintings of their settings. By doing this the children were able to make up their own sentences with similes, metaphors and personification. Miss Kenny was absolutely blown away by the children’s attitude to learning and the work they produced. Great job guys!

Remarkable Rhinos

It's "all about the brass"

Year Four/Five have absolutely loved the time they have spent so far learning to play brass instruments. This is a ten week programme where children are taught by professionals musicians. Instruments include; trumpets, trombones and tubas. Miss Kenny popped her head into the session on Tuesday and was greeted by magnificent sounds and I know that parents are loving hearing the children rehearse at home too. It is wonderful that Greenfields can still offer such fantastic enrichment opportunities, let’s hope this gets more children into learning how to play an instrument.

Healthy Cheetahs

In Champion Cheetahs this week, in science, they have been learning all about keeping themselves healthy. They learnt that exercise is just as important as a healthy diet!

Super Healthy Sharks

Super Sharks have also been learning about healthy eating and exercise. Here are some of our awesome posters.

Squelchy Monkeys

This week Year 3 were Super Scientists. They created an amazing discovery called 'oobleck'. This disgusting fluid which when you hold it is wet like a liquid but when left to rest turns in to a solid. It was very wet, sticky and messy but was lots of fun for the children to squelch between their fingers!

Dragonflies' Walkabout

This week, Dragonflies decided to get some fresh autumn air. During their walk they decided to collect some autumnal items to use in an art project. The Reception children really enjoyed themselves.

September 2021 Reception intake

If you have a child turning 4 years old between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, you need to apply for their place to start in Reception in September 2021.

Greenfields Primary School and Nursery is now rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and as with all outstanding schools the popularity of the school increases. With this in mind, we are expecting to be oversubscribed in our admissions for a place in our Reception class in September 2021. This means that we will not have enough places for the number of children applying and some families will be disappointed and not be allocated Greenfields. More information on admissions can be found on our website

The application process is now available on the Northamptonshire County Council website: click on the button below to apply for place at Greenfields.

If your child is currently attending our nursery and is due to start in our Reception next year, then we do not want you to be disappointed and miss out on a place. You must submit an application before the closing date as places are NOT automatically allocated.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact our school office.
