David Hemery Valentine Invitational

The team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University, a banked track known for being the home of very fast times. We enjoyed two exciting days, where the women competed on Friday, and the men competed on Saturday.

Women

Eline Laurent

The meet started with the women’s 3k, where Eline Laurent set a personal best, running a time of 10:34! In the same heat, Olivia Polischeck ran a season best with a time of 10:39. Mary Kate McGranahan competed well in a different heat of the 3k.

Next up was the 60 meter hurdles, which featured two personal bests from Ella Rossa and Annelise Romero! Ella ran a time of 8.87, which broke her own school record set at Cornell a few weeks ago! Annelise improved upon her previous best time by 0.03 seconds to run 9.89 seconds. Later in the meet, Ella long jumped a season best of 5.21 meters and Annelise triple jumped not far off her season best with her jump of 10.82 meters.

Sylvia Frank

The 800 was an exciting event for the Mammoths, where Jenny Mazzella, Rachel Ruderman and Sylvia Frank all had awesome races! Jenny and Rachel both chopped a whopping three seconds off their personal bests in the event! Jenny ran a time of 2:16, and Rachel ran a time of 2:19. Sylvia Frank also competed in the 800, and improved upon her season best time by 5 seconds to run 2:28!

Amerley Lokko

In the short sprints, Amerley Lokko had a great day and set personal bests in the 60 meter dash and the indoor 200, with times of 8.14 and 26.44 seconds, respectively. Sam Tichelaar also set a personal best in the indoor 200, with a time of 26.58 seconds! Isabel Park kept the personal best train going in the indoor 200, and ran a time of 27.04 seconds!

The long sprinters enjoyed a great day in the 400, as they all ran indoor personal bests in the 400! Juanita Jaramillo ran a time of 58.69, her first time breaking 60 indoors! Sophia Friedman ran 59.10 in her first time breaking 60 this season! Susannah Auderset ran an excellent race to win her heat, and just missed breaking 60, running a time of 60.04. Isabelle Lobo ran a season best time of 61.87!

In the 500, Ava Tillman won her heat with a great move on the second lap and ran a personal best time of 1:21.61!

Sarah Gayer

In the mile, Maggie Drew improved upon her previous best time by six seconds, and ran a time of 5:24! Kristin Ratliff and Maya Bhandari both ran hard in their heats of the mile.

In the 3k, Sarah Gayer enjoyed an awesome race, setting a new personal best with a time of 9:53! In the same heat, Sophie Wolmer also set a personal best, running a time of 10:06!

The squad of Juanita Jaramillo, Katie Lingen, Sam Tichelaar and Anna Madden broke the school record in the 4x400 relay, running a time of 3:54.67! Running in a competitive heat, each one of them competed hard and well. Anna led the Mammoths off with a split of 59.17 seconds, and handed off to Katie, who had a monster split of 57.61 seconds. Katie gave the baton to Sam, who in her second 400 of the year split 59.18 seconds, and Juanita anchored the Mammoths home in a split of 58.69!

The B relay of Ava Tillman, Susannah Auderset, Isabelle Lobo and Jenny Mazzella ran a great time of 4:04! Susannah led the relay off with a split of 61.81, who handed it off to Isabelle who ran a great leg with a split of 60.72. Ava got the baton from Isabelle, and ran a nice split of 61.1, and Jenny anchored the team with a split of 61.19 and made a great move to help the team place second in their heat.

Men

Ajay Sarathy

Ajay Sarathy ran a personal best time of 8:38 in the 3k!

Will Spurrell

In the 800, Will Spurrell led the Mammoths with a time of 1:56, an indoor personal best! In the same heat, Braedon Fiume ran a great time of 1:57. Jack Dufton took a break from the multi events for the weekend, and snuck under the 2 minute barrier with a time of 1:59. Lev Robertson ran hard in his heat of the 800.

Short sprinters dominating the 60!

In the short sprints, Henry Buren had an awesome day, tying his personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.96 seconds, and broke his own school record in the 200 by almost a half second, running a time of 21.92 seconds! Chris Gong set a personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.17 seconds, as did multi Troy Colleran, who ran a time of 7.20 seconds. Elijah Ngbokoli and Trevor Hall both competed well in the 60 meter dash, and Trevor finished his day with a personal best in the 200! Yeob Kim made his Mammoth debut in the 60 meter dash, and ran a nice race to start things off. Arinze Uddoh ran a season best in the 200 with a time of 23.88 seconds, as did Mayowa Tinubu, who stepped down from the long sprints to run a time of 23.05 seconds.

Theo Bates

In the long sprints, Stanley Dunwell ran an indoor personal best in the 400 with a time of 50.64 seconds! Ben Wadsworth also enjoyed an indoor personal best, running a time of 51.19 seconds! Ellis Phillips-Galucci fought his way through a tough race to run an indoor personal best time of 51.21 seconds, as did Kyland Smith who fought through traffic to run a time of 51.72 seconds. Matt Gelin won his heat in an indoor personal best time of 52.26 seconds!

In the 500, Theo Bates, Alex Mangiafico and Teddy Lane all ran personal bests! Alex ran his first race since injury to run a 1:07! Theo Bates ran a fantastic last lap and came up just short of winning his heat, running a time of 1:09. In the same heat, Teddy Lane competed well and placed just behind Theo, also running 1:09.

Bobby Innes-Gold

In the 1,000, Bobby Innes-Gold ran a great race and set a new personal best to run a time of 2:37!

Billy Massey
Aydin Williams

The mile was a very successful event for the Mammoths. Spencer Ferguson-Dryden got it started with a great race, where he ran 4:12, which is currently ranked twentieth nationally in Division 3. In the same heat, Billy Massey ran a season best time of 4:17. Aydin Williams ran a season best in mile with a time of 4:25, and Jamie Mazzola in his first race of the season had a great race with a personal best time of 4:26! Keon Mazdisnian and Matt Bradley both ran season bests in the mile, running 4:27 and 4:35, respectively.

We had two 4x400 relays compete on Saturday, and both won their heats! The A team of Kyland Smith, Ellis Phillips-Galucci, Alex Mangiafico and Stanley Dunwell won their heat in a time of 3:23.98, a season best for the relay. Kyland led the team off with a split of 51.3, and handed off to Ellis who split 50.65. Ellis handed off to Alex, who split 51.50, and Stanley brought the win home with a split of 50.50.

The B team of Ben Wadsworth, Theo Bates, Matt Gelin and Mayowa Tinubu also won their heat with a time of 3:27! Ben led off with a split of 52.46, and handed off to Theo, who split 51.57. Theo gave the baton to Matt, who split 52.23, and Mayowa brought the team home with a split of 51.48.

In the 60 meter hurdles, Troy Colleran set a huge personal best, running a time of 8.55 seconds! Yonas Shiferaw ran another solid race in the hurdles, running 8.87 seconds. Jack Trent set a personal best in the 60 hurdles for the second week in a row, running a time of 8.89 seconds!

Chris Gong

Both Troy Colleran and Chris Gong set personal bests in the long jump! Troy jumped 7.12 meters, which is currently ranked twelfth nationally in Division 3. Chris jumped 6.73 meters, a nice improvement from his personal best set earlier this season. In the triple jump, Jordan Edwards jumped just off his season best with his jump of 13.37 meters.

We saw a few more Mammoths earn Division 3 New England qualifying marks!
