24 Hrs. of Peace (24HOP) has become a major event on the Newark calendar and is used by parents in the community as a signal for the upcoming school year.
We use Hip Hop Culture to engage the local community and have meaningful dialog around important issues such as NON VIOLENCE and CONFLICT RESOLUTION while at the same time SAFELY HAVING FUN.
In years past, 24HOP has garnered the support of strong local partnerships with the likes of The Jersey Explorer’s Museum, Grassroots Foundation, Beth Israel Hospital, 211 Community Impact and The Great City of Newark. We have given away over 10,000 books and nearly 1,000 book bags filled with school supplies. We've also been able to provide health screenings, HIV testing, stress testing, free haircuts for adolescent boys and toy give aways for the youth. Thanks to the newly launched, "JAY Z" owned, global music and film content streaming service TIDAL, we were able to give away free memberships to their service as well as broadcast on site "The Lil Wayne/Lil Weezyana" live stream concert. This year is our sixth annual celebration of peace and the 2nd annual with the honorable Ras Baraka as mayor. This year’s 24HOP promises to be the biggest and most impactful to date.
