SCS Newsletter 11.10.2019

We have had another busy week in Upper school and classes across all key stages enjoyed going out to the local community, exploring the local facilities such as the library, shopping centre, cinema and the local park. We are continuing to explore the theme of 'Belonging' through a variety of sensory activities and sessions and will be planning more exciting lessons and outings over the next week.

Classes in Lower school have started to go out on more trips too. Violet class travelled by tube to Sainsbury’s which was a successful adventure. There have been quite a few adventures to the local shops to buy ingredients for cooking sessions and snack. Pansy class have been making delicious pizzas in the life skills room. The early classes have been on an underwater adventure with the ‘Rainbow fish’. We’ve all been enjoying playing outside in the changing autumnal weather.

EYFS

This week, as part of our theme 'Belonging', learners in Early Years have been exploring their faces and different expressions in mirrors. They were very inquisitive and responded with lots of excitement and vocalisations!

Informal Pathway

The pupils in Marie Curie class are using their communication systems throughout the day to request and to comment on what is going on. In this photo two pupils are talking about the music, and making it stop and start.

Semi-Formal Pathway

As part of our work within the 'Me and My Community' and 'My Thinking' curriculum areas, classes took trips to Sainsbury’s this week.

Learners first walked together to the tube station and then enjoyed travelling on the tube, watching for the train in anticipation as it approached! Classes then used their visual shopping lists to buy items for cooking sessions later in the week.

Formal Pathway

The Arts Award Music and Drama students visited The East Finchley Theatre this week, where they were joined by professional actors that gave them tips and advice! The learners are rehearsing Shakespeare's Twelfth Night!

The students are excited to perform alongside other schools in Camden on November 18th. They will be performing for their parents, friends and carers.

Sixth Form

Through the EmployMEnt Pathway ‘Venture Café’, food is prepared, served and sold in the in-house Café which is open weekly for school staff. The Pathway consists of three departments working collaboratively; Catering, Preparation and Marketing, and Operations.

In the Preparation and Marketing department, the team sourced photos for the menu, designed flyers and posters and added the menu items onto the peg board.
