Hispanic Heritage Month SEPTEMBER 2021

Please join the department of Diversity, Equity, and Poverty and all of JCPS in acknowledging and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month during the month of September. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

This year’s theme is “Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope”, which is an invitation to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and reflect on how great tomorrow can be for Hispanics, and for all if we hold onto our resilience and hope. It is also an encouragement to reflect on all of the contributions Hispanics have made in the past and will continue to make in the future. It is also a reminder that we all are stronger together.

Educate, Engage, Empower

Support & Connect

The Latinx ERG's mission is to serve and empower the Latinx community while sharing their values/strengths as a way to promote diversity within the entire JCPS community. Together they work to create a community for LatinX JCPS staff to connect with one another while advocating for Latinx parents, students, and fellow teachers. Their goal is to also build a network of professionals and to celebrate and embrace contributions to JCPS. And lastly, they work to promote Latinx Student Organizations in different schools to grow and empower the next generation of LatinX leaders within JCPS.

The intent of this Spark is to provide information, resources, and support for JCPS employees. This is not comprehensive, as the contributions of Latinx Americans are far too in-depth to be contained by this Spark. Let us all continue to amplify the voice and perspectives of marginalized groups both in the classroom and community.
