LES News Back to School Newsletter

Welcome Back

Another summer is wrapping up and the anticipation of the new school year is quickly approaching! Our teachers have been working hard this summer learning new curriculum, attending conferences, and preparing classrooms for the upcoming school year. Soon, the hallways will be filled with life again, and we cannot wait!

New Staff

LES would like to welcome some new members to the team! Mrs. Lacey Wade, Mrs. Angie Brookshire, and Mrs. Traci LeTourneau will all be moving from the middle school and joining the elementary team.

Mrs. Wade is the new elementary principal. She is beginning her 12th year with the corporation and her 6th year as a principal.

Mrs. Brookshire is joining the 1st Grade teaching staff. She is beginning her 24th year with the corporation and has taught various grade levels throughout the years.

Mrs. LeTourneau is over the new Life Skills program. She is beginning her 23rd year as a Special Education teacher. She has spent her last three years with Life Skills program for grades 7-12.

We also have several new teaching assistants who are joining the LES staff. Mrs. Cammie Sanders and Ms. Colleen Walls will be assisting Mrs. LeTourneau with the new Life Skills program. Mrs. Karen Hopkins will be assisting Mrs. Mullen in the K-4 Resource Room. Ms. Amber Gilbertson will be a classroom instructional assistant for all grade levels.

Last but not least, we want to welcome Ms. Megan Lottes. She is our new Youth First Social Worker who will be replacing Mrs. Elizabeth Christmas. Mrs. Christmas has taken another position with Youth First and will be managing the social workers at area schools.

Registration Information

Loogootee Community Schools is offering online registration again this year. We will also have centralized registration for those who still want to come in as well. Online registration is now open. Parents will be able to update addresses, phone numbers, and pay for lunch and textbook fees online. Parents will need their child's 'Other ID' which is found in the student info section of Skyward. Parents who need Skyward access, can call the school office for assistance beginning Thursday, July 26th.

If you prefer to come in, we will be available August 1st in the high school cafeteria from 8:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m.

Please take time to register by August 2nd so we can finish planning for the school year.

School Supplies

In the past, LES has provided the option for parents to purchase supplies through the school and have it delivered to the student's classroom, however, this option has caused the school to lose money in the past so this will not be available. This year, there will be some supplies available to purchase at registration, but it will be on a first come first serve basis. The service will be a pay and take system. Below, you will find the 2018-2019 supply list for Grades K-4.

LCSC Tailgate Meet & Greet

Loogootee Community Schools will be having a Tailgate Meet and Greet before school begins. The Meet and Greet will be held on August 7, 2018 from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in all three buildings. Teachers will be in their classrooms to introduce themselves. Also, be sure to stop by the elementary playground for the tailgate party and to mingle with the principals. We will be grilling hot dogs and providing other snacks, too!

Paw's Club & Lion's Den Preschool

We still have openings for the Day Care and Preschool for the 2018-19 school year Check out the link below for more information.

Car Riders - Arrival/Departure

Car arrival and dismissal time is a very busy part of the school. Our goal is to get everyone through the line as quickly and as safely as possible, and we appreciate your help with this. There are a couple things you can do to help.

  • If you will be getting out of your car to drop off or pick up your student, please pull past the poles and walk down the sidewalk. This way traffic can still move through the car line.
  • Please encourage your child to practice buckling up on their own.
  • Please also have your child get in next to the curb so they don't get hit as cars pull past.
  • In the morning, please pull forward to allow a full line of cars to be unloaded.
  • After school, please pull forward again. Teachers will call students out to be loaded into cars as parents arrive.
  • When the weather is bad, please continue to pull forward to allow a line of cars to be loaded. Teachers will walk students out with umbrellas when it is raining, or call a group to be loaded when the wind chill is too cold this winter to stand outside.
